Or if that pulley cut aka cartar in Desi language is pre welded it slips crank pulley becomes loose but starts giving a very loud growl noise.

this is the exact same problem i faced.

no the engine was not taken off. yes the welding thing is correct. precision welding with Stainless steel rod. and then a grinder cutter disc to bring it to shape.

yes the bolt was not fully torqued, or new bolt was not used.

in my case the bolt was reused after timing belt job, it became loose and the pulley flew out during driving. which damaged the shaft, and the pulley was lost.

the pulley i have has less grooves in the power steering section. thats why its sitting spare. i have the same power steering pump that you have.

you need to take of the plastic timing covers take of the timing belt. replace with genuine item UNITTA available at nasir

all belts must be off prior to welding.

proceed with welding, wrap a cold water damp cloth around the shaft and other parts to avoid weld splatter. only welded area should be exposed.

after welding, take of the cam and crank seals, genuine NOK seals can be found from Hamza Oil Seals (plaza market) 03232102202 Raza

put in new seals.

Crankshaft pulley came off while driving

I was driving my car on Saturday (96 Civic) when suddenly, I heard a popping sound coming from the engine bay. As I was pulling over to the side, I felt a thud and I saw the crank shaft pulley fly off! I couldn't believe my eyes, how does a crankshaft pulley just come off. No that was the other mechanic quoting wrong price who I took the car at night.
Also the car is driven only 25k kms in 5 years. So should I change seals and timing belt if they were changed when swapping?

Just talked to nasir autos, they are saying they don't have that bolt and they don't no longer import it.
Also my mechanic is getting everything in used: Pulley, key and bolt.
Also he said we didn't do anything to engine when swapping it in 2015. So I told him to check timing belt and water pump. But I am doubtfull if he will actually check it or not. He has so much load that he wants to clear cars as soon as possible.

when was the last time you changed this belt? if it was old and you did not change it on time then obviously its gonna snap.
Was your AC compressor working fine? A bad compressor clutch bearing can cause the belt to snap. I don't buy your mechanic's story.

if you know of the history then no need to change.

however, there is a chance that due to welding on crankshaft, the crank seal may get damaged due to heat. thats why recommended to change that seal

or, i cant really recommend it. use old bolt with RED loctite and torque it to spec. then monitor it.

but there must be nothing loose, the key way, key and pulley.

Was your AC compressor working fine? A bad compressor clutch bearing can cause the belt to snap. I don't buy your mechanic's story.

I haven't changed any belt. And AC compressor was working fine.

Just received the car. Only 7.5k total bill including spark plug changes (1200) and engine tappet cover seal and some other tuning.

But don't know the quality of the job done.

Only one belt (AC) is replaced. Maybe rest were not bad.
