Civic 2006: Windsheild upper rubber trim

Salam,

The car in question is 7th gen civic.The upper rubber trim of windshield has become brittle and is cracking. There is also a small rust spec along the upper channel.
Need to know if its possible to remove and replace this trim without removing the windshield. The manual does not state the rubber trim replacement as a process, rather only as part of windshield replacement where it is applied on the glass first.

Ask a glass installer.

Its usually a glass out job.

These moldings are removable.
These are the first thing to remove if you want to remove the windscreen.

Well yeah thats what I have concluded so far too. Arranging Sika polyurethane just in case removal is neccessary.

How did you remove it, not talking about the side trims which are clipped on. The top one has glass wedged in it. I will try to cut it and pull it out first but seems like it is a tight fit.

Moldings are all removable.
But damage is bad. You need to take screen off.

I think I can manage to treat the rust without removal of windsheild as on inspectuon, its currently along the upper edge only. Biggest reason to not remove windsheild is the exact factory glass polyurethane and polyurethane primer are not available. I have managed to arrange Sika polyurethane but the primer is still not found. Have replaced windshield on another civic but there were leaks as polyurethane did not adhere to glass properly due to lack of primer (everything was cleaned properly, no dirt, dust,grease, grime etc to fail adhesion). Here is the new original part. Notice the groove in which glass wedges in, how were you able to get it in place, light rubber mallet taps? roller press?

the primer is available if you contact good glass installers, they usually are not the scarecrows outside the windscreen shops.

Problem is that proper install guys charge labour at least 3 times as much as those usual guys.

Any such shop which sells it in Karachi? It sounded alien stuff when I asked about it from industrial supplies stores near khori garden.
Poor workmanship is not an issue and so is labour charges as all maintainace is done as DIY for my cars. The street side monkeys donot even use polyurethane here and slap the windscreen with "silikaan" over built up mud, rust and grime. Nonetheless it never seals.

yazdani paint shop in DHA had such contacts on speed dial, ive seen those guys work, they would take a literal piano wire and use that to cut the glass urethane.

The shop in plaza (amjad glass I think) also had those guys contacts, but only gave them for highly expensive euro cars as the owners would rip the shop to pieces if water leaked in. dealerships also had them.

I'll look in my old notes to see if I can find some leads of them. They were not your usual sheesha walay. They were grads from KU.

Just to update. I was able to remove the upper trim successfully without removing the windsheild. However, it seemed to be put together with cheap silicone sealant so removed it all (with fishing line) to be re-applied with Sika polyurethane.
Windscreen cracked after removing (cracked itself while sitting at a side, maybe there were rock chips which propagated once stress was removed).
Got new genuine windsheild, treated the rust spots, all good now.
