Civic 2014 Rattle Sound - Auto tensioner

Gents,

I am facing a problem in my civic 2014 only 60k driven, a rattle KARRRR KARRRR sound is coming all of a sudden ... honda islamabad diagnised to replace complete tensioner assembly PKR 27000 + 5000 labor. Kindy advise if you have any problem like that? Do i really need to chsnge complete assembly.

It is always better to take a second opinion. So, I suggest you take your car to some expert mechanic and see if he diagnosed the same problem.
However, I would NEVER suggest you get such kind of maintenance work done from any kind of dealership as they will rip you off with their sky-high prices. Even if you have to replace the complete tensioner assembly, get it done from some reliable workshop/expert mechanic and save yourself a lot.

The rest is your choice.

Also whats your opinion about parts, original are way to expensive, other parts that are available in local market do they perform well??

Bro I had a 2013 triborn and yes it had the same issue and the problem was diagnosed as tensioner you also have to change the belt. The total costed around 20k. I got the work done in Karachi. You should go to another good workshop for opinion and buy geniune tensioner and belt from honda sugoi at a negotiable rate.

Thanks bro. I got it checked and now mexhanic is saying its mighy be water pump issue, he said first chsngr water pump if problem still persist then change tensioner also.

Its only 60k odo, and all this is happening, quite disapppinting.

Other mechanic is saying its AC compressor , dont know who is right.

use a automotive stethoscope! to pin point the source of the sound.

or use a LONG screw driver. do this your self!

You got tensioner issue at 78k now whats your odo km?? How long it will last?

What is the frequency of these and other issues you are getting in your civic?

It will be a nightmare if such kind expenses are to be done every other month or so

They say it will last long but can't say anything.

One issue is known in these cars of back suspension and catalytic converter but luckily didn't got into the catalytic converter problem.

If you once make the Engine perfect with all genuine parts then the r18 engine is one of the most reliable engines and has good response at motorways.

1st check for the serpentine belt (a.k.a. the AC Belt or Fan Belt).

Sometimes, if its faulty, one way or the other, then it can give different squeaking noises, etc. and replacing it with a genuine, brand new one can solve the problems.

If fault in the belt gets ruled out, then next comes checking the pulleys or bearings in them.

An easy way to check them is to remove the belt passing on to them, and rotate them freely. Faulty pulleys / bearings in them will either give noises, or abnormal play, or both.

Diagnose which pulley gives any such abnormal noises. Repair / replace it, and hopefully, the issue will get resolved. I.A.

Reliability of Honda in case of some Civics is quite questionable. Still, a car is a mechanical thing, and can develop faults / problems any time.

Only go for the genuine parts. Used parts, when brand new are easily available (irrespective of their prices) may be sincerely avoided.

other parts that are available in local market do they perform well??

If "other parts" are non-genuine Honda parts, then they may be avoided.

Please 1st check above, how to rule out belt and pulleys / bearings.

If both are fine, only then move to water body / water pump. If mechanic has not rules out belt and pulleys, and is directly jumping to the water pump / water body, then to me, mechanic does not seem experienced.

Its only 60k odo, and all this is happening, quite disapppinting.

I know, its quite frustrating but don't worry. Things can go bad.

Bro I also faced the pulley issue but it sound was like gzz gzz gzz and after spending 3k on a kabli pulley it all was normal

Hello brother,

I would like to ask something if anyone can help. Honda Service center have replaced water pump of my car civic 2014 to fix rattling issue. It cost me 22k total. Alhamdulillah rattling issue is fixed but now i am feeling that engine sound is louder than before also gear shifting is not smooth as before specially in 1 gear to 2nd and 3rd.

Any one can suggest how to get rid of this problem????
