Civic 97 Suspension

AoA guys,

Around 2 years back suspension work was done and atm the suspension of the car sucks big big big big time

OK need to know what I should go for? Kabli or branded? Are the original shocks still available? Suspension work was done about 2 years ago. Complete work. The care has been used on pindi/isb roads only. So I believe that substandard material was used.
Anyways, the car was at mechanic's mercy to do as he pleases and install what he likes. Here is the bill:

Now that FR+RR Suspension only for 4k. That doesn't seems right to me.

Anyways the point is, what to get and where to get it from and estimated prices pls.

Things needed:

1) Front and rear shocks
2) Front and rear springs
3) Front and rear bushes

Is there anything else that needs to be added?

Looks like it reads Axle kit... and yes the prices look shady, 600 bucks for Brake oil!!!!

The trailing bushings need to be pressed in correctly with a sort of hand made mandrel that only pushes the collar of it in the arm. The arm should only be tightened at horizontal (drive) position. Otherwise the bushing will tear in 1 month.

Similar for the rest of the arms.

If multipurpose grease was used on any rubber part or you had it oiled after washing then the rubber bushings have rotten again. Back to square one.

once the suspension is redone(with new RBI bushes) it will wear out anytime after a year even on carpeted roads

Hmmm, so my mechanic did say that bushes are in a bad shape.

So what do you suggest? Should I go for kabli or not? I don't think the mechanic did that pressing, well I am pretty sure he didn't So shahid autos or new parts both are equally good or is one better than the other? Since already spent a sizeable sum on suspension less than 2 years back I'd like peace of mind this time around.

I have a 96 Civic. The 96-00 models have a double wishbone front suspension, it has a lot more parts than a MacPherson suspension which is simpler in design and less costly to service.

If you want ride quality then you need to get quality spare parts. I always bought original parts instead of aftermarket. The only part that is not available as original is the rear trailing arm bushing. I wouldn't trust kabli parts. For installing the bushes a hydraulic press is recommended. The ride quality of this car depends on those little bushes. In the end, you get what you pay for.

Aoa Guys,

Guys just called shahid autos who referred me to waqar autos. The guy there told me that the original shocks are not available however Japanese tokico shocks are available. Could you pls reflect on this brand?

@xulfiqar and @shabbir.1bhai pls share your views would really help and I need them too.
@owais_yunus buddy if you've heard about these than do share your views as well.

the factory items on these cars are showa - and are not sold aftermarket, tokico etc are all aftermarket and are not valved like the OE items.

• When redoing any rubber part, I always say this over and again, only tighten the bushings with the wheel in drive position.

To do this - raise the hub with a jack so the car weight is sort of on the jack and not on the stands, tighten everything.. If your mechanic tightens the bushing bolts with everything hanging down - the bushings will tear apart in a month - and your car will drive like a horse cart too.

Sir Xulfiqar will help you explain the correct procedure of installing and removing the suspensions parts, so that you can keep a check on your mechanic that he doesn't botch with the suspensions parts.

Yup I remember the hydraulic press. Will keep this in mind as well then. So I've the go ahead for original parts as well. I plan to get this done before ramzan starts.

Though are these tukico japanese ya phir chinese walay japanese hein yeh?

And bushes ka b koi acha brand hai tau do mention it

Tokico were previously made in Japan and were better than KYB since Hitachi acquired them they r made in Taiwan with complaints of leakage. Only the rear Tokico r available made in Japan.

The sad part is that KYB gas shocks for 1999 civic made in japan EXCEL-G brand will cost you 12K for front only. Malaysia ones 9K not the same as Japan but still very good.

The good news is that if u plan to keep the car they will easily last for 6 years even on village roads.

mine in 1997 city front are working fine since 2006 the rear have become soft lately since on CNG but they still dont hit the ground or speed breaker.

Rear ones are 8K for Japan and 6K for Malaysia.

Part number Front 341203 Rear 341198.

6th gen civic had the best suspension ever from Honda with double wishbone all around now you dont get them even in a 10M rupees new Accord which Honda Atlas sells.

Honda introduced cost cutting from Prosmatec shape.

I highly recommend to go for new let me know if u want any help.

Bro here you are talking about KYB EXCEL-G shocks right and the part numbers are for them as well? The ones lasting 6 years, I want to get this worked out tomorrow. Though shahid autos only had tokico shocks. So where else in pindi/isb can I get kyb shocks.

Just talked to Meher motors rawalpindi 2S dealers.

The guy quoted Rs 8500/- for Front shock so total it'll be for Rs 17000/- And for the rear shock quoted Rs 9500/- so Rs 19000/- for both shocks. I told him that I'd head that the front shocks cost Rs 19500/- said those are with springs and foundations.

Front Bushes Rs 6000/-
Rear Bushes Rs 8000/-

Labor cost Rs 6000/- though kharadia's cost not included. Says that all honda dealers get these parts from the same company in lahore, and these are the original products.

Original shocks milein gy kidher say. Honda center says will take upto 3 weeks to get the shocks. Waqar autos k pass original nai paray. So abb kidher ja k sakoon?

I've had experience with Tokico shocks in vitz and in my charade aswell. The vitz stayed with us for some time and over the 1.5 years of use, the shocks turned out to be pretty good. Tokico shocks were installed in the charade aswell before it was sold and we used it for around 2 months with those shocks and they seemed very nice for that period of time. Once it was sold however, the new owner replaced the shocks with gtti ones, not sure if the tokico ones had any issue with them or just because he wanted the gtti suspension.

The prices of the bushes seem okay btw. I got 2 front bushes changed in the corolla and they were for Rs. 2200 so the price seems fine for honda bushes if they are genuine parts.

^ Thnx man for the info. I went ahead and bought KYB. Its because I saw @bradpit quote somewhere that KYB Excel G are really good. Now I am not sure if these are japan made or not so pls help me out here.

It says on the shocks that they are made in japan but I don't trust these markings anymore. So could anyone pls tell me whether I got the right stuff or is it chinese?

The other thing is k or koi packing ya wrapping nai thi, iss tarha box mei milein hein, yeh aisay hi aatay hein ya phir koi packing waghaira hoti hai?
