No, not with the body/chassis. You have to short both wires with each other. On OBD1 engine wiring harness ECT(TW), IAT(TA) and TPS shares the same return path with ECU i.e., SG2 or Signal Ground No.2 (Grn/Wht - wire).
But before attempting to do the timing adjustment job, check the crank-pulley (harmonic balancer pulley) for clear refrence paint markings or you will struggle to find them with the strobe light. These markings have normally been washed out in a car of this vintage.
