Get a used transmission. it will cost you 1.40 lakhs, works perfectly fine. I have seen Honda dealership replacing transmissions of civic x with used ones even saw one of the turbo one with broken chain, later they got used one from Bilal gunj and now it works perfectly fine. According to them it’s better than Oem.. lol

Getting a used is better. Is the mechanic telling you that he can fix it or replace to he whole CVT? Normaly it's v hard to repair a CVT, but a belt can be replaced. It's a labor intensive work.

As far as i know to repair any gear issue specially in cvt the whole cvt needs to get changed

depends on the mechanic. its a simple part replacement but needs exceptional skill and specialized tools. Best policy is to replace the CVT Because repair is time consuming and you cant be sure it will work if you dont have the tools.

CVT oil change is a major reason for CVT failure as most of the dealerships or mechanics dont have or use the tool to make sure that fluid fill was successful. you need to know the temprature and exact level of oil. If you drain the oil cold its bad, if you over fill its bad,. and there is no way of telling it without a factory tool.

Yes, CVT oil change requires technical expertise to be honest. It's very sensitive, there was a thread of a CVT oil change procedure for Grande. I think the person did it himself as even the Mechanic's at the dealership are not aware of these technicalities.

Once again excessive belt clamping pressure causes the belt to overstress and breaks the belt compensator in which these little parts are thrown all over the transmission.

Get the variator pulleys assesed if they are not worn out a new belt can be installed in it and you will again be good to go for a good mile range.

Honda suffers the exactly same stupid dumbass issue that is faced with Jatco cvts, which is that the variator pulleys are supported by 3 tiny ball bearings only.

Meaning the entire load of the engine torque (albeit low due to high spin rpm at the variator) is being transferred through 6 tiny 5mm ball bearings)

I have made franken tranmissions from junked and dead CVTs with hardened pins instead of ball bearings and it works pretty decent - had to redo the oil pump too as it was bad due to being run all the time under maximum pressure. its fun and all - but in the end its a piece of trash CVT, if you push it hard, or idle it too long in summer or climb a hill or carry passengers in the car - the unit will fail.

I call all of the above normal driving, but today's awaam is so impressed with "maadrann feechur" that they think that everything is super fantastic and hunky dory even when the issue is staring them in their face - literally a stupid transmission that cannot take the load of a carrot being juiced in a household blender.

the belt drive unit can be changed as a whole unit, its actually the end part of the transmission - and Honda actually sell it as a part, but you wont like the price, and you need a master mechanic to do this repair as if a mistake is made like not prepping the surfaces properly for sealant or not fully reconditioning the valve body and not using a torque wrench - all that money is wasted.

even the diff spider needs to be supported in this gearbox if both axles are removed from it. (its just a plastic plug about 3 inches long, same issue as old maxima or old FWD ford automatics)

There is a reason that manufacturers dont install CVT in larger displacement engines.

Unless you are Nissan..

the crackheads at Nissan have coupled the VQ35 to a CVT (and also optioned in an AWD t/case too) and bolted the whole stupid unit to a large SUV - and also installed a tow hitch on it so you can pull a trailer - and told customers that the CVT fluid is lifetime fill.

They had to pay out their behinds on warranty claims on those units as early as 20,000 miles - they were and are in some tough lawsuits too, They then installed 3 additional heat exchangers on those vehicles to keep the fluid temperature somewhat under control.

Funny part - they still fail!!!!

prosmatec is a simple Honda automatic (Hondamatic) with electronic shift control and a learned shift quality sequence.

DCT is nice and all but have intensive service procedures at prescribed mileage which involves replacing the clutch units etc. So as long as you have accounted to spend that money as "cost of ownership" - its okayish.

CVT are just LOL, you cannot overcome its "nazakatt" unless you only drive the car extremely gently without any load and dont idle in it with AC on etc etc.

That pairing of VQ35 with CVT is the unholiest marriage ever.
Such a brilliant engine, it was a blasphemy and nissan are still paying for it, lol.

you wont believe the hordes of "moms" who love that SUV (pathfinder/Infniti JX35 or QX60), its actually a 7 seater with folding center row - and the whole seat can be moved even with a baby seat on it.

The "moms" only see that and buy it - then forget CVT maintenance, they dont even bother with oil change because.

Whats engine oil? - Nissan told me its a maintenance free car
Why do I need to take it for oil change? its not a womans job
Why does this car need extra maintenance?
Brakes need replacement - Why arent they lifetime?
Suspension needs replacement? why?

and proceed to destroy them.

about 50% of those SUVs on road are on replacement engines and about 60% have replacement transmissions either footed by Nissan or by customer.

most of them are in the scrapyard. Nissan are making bank on them.

These same customers are so special they actually drive to nissan dealer service lane to get the "windshield fluid added" because its too complicated for them and they dont want to get their fat bodies out of the car.

Its a very funny way of thinking but lack of education has cemented this thought process into the heads of common people and even have given it names like Kabli.

Given the current situation in Afghanistan, we might be seeing Taliban Blessed Kabuli parts soon.
