Hi everyone,
I have a 2012 Honda Civic Rebirth (Japanese variant, 1600cc CVT Prosmatec). I'm facing an issue where, in the morning, the car gives a heavy jerk and delay when I shift into gear—especially in reverse. After warming up, it gets better. While driving, it sometimes jerks mildly when accelerating after slowing down (like it's shifting from 2nd to 1st).
If I shift from Neutral to Drive while moving, there's no jerk, but I hear a soft "chigkkk" sound. Also, when I start the car, the gear indicator briefly shows “D” before switching to “P”, even though I haven't touched the gear lever.
I’ve had the car scanned and everything seems fine except for a missing battery earth sensor. All engine/transmission mounts have been recently changed and are in perfect condition, so mount issues are ruled out.
The car has done about 200k km, and the transmission fluid hasn't been changed in the last 50k km. Local mechanics warn against changing it, claiming it could ruin the transmission—but they haven't even inspected it properly, so I don’t trust that advice.
I live in a remote area and there's no transmission specialist nearby. I've heard suggestions like checking solenoids, coils, etc., but I don’t know where to start. Could someone please guide me on what usually causes this kind of issue and where to begin the inspection?
