I have a civic 2013 (rebirth). I'm located in Karachi.
I'm pretty sure this isn't normal and there's something wrong with my particular car.
My problem is that the headlights are extremely dim in both high beam and low beam. I've checked with several local auto electricians and they're all just telling me to upgrade my bulbs to higher power (100w+) and replacing the current 50w bulbs.
These people don't understand that this car is designed to handle 51w low beam and 60w high beam bulbs. Anything higher heats the wires and runs the risk of damaging headlight assembly/harness.
Besides, I don't think the headlights are supposed to be this dim by default. I'm not looking for something extra powered. My concern is that the current lights are far too dim even when compared to stock factory-fitted lights, and that's what I need (nothing super powered). I don't really know what the previous owner did with this car.
I currently got some japanese Hi-lux low beam lights fitted and they're no good in terms of brightness. I can barely drive at a reasonable speed at night because I can't spot potholes and breakers from far enough with these.
I don't know what the problem is. I compared it with my friend's city aspire and his factory-fitted lights are significantly brighter. You can literally see the inner chrome glowing with reflections in his car, which spread out the beam to cover a huge area in front.
In my civic, the low beam compartment almost looks like a flash light just projecting the beam outward. The glowing reflections aren't visible inside the lens like it is with my friend's car.
I refuse to believe this is how the Civic 9th gen is supposed to be by default, so something is definitely wrong.
I asked electricians to confirm if it's not an issue with electirical connections/wiring/relays/ground. No one actually tested with a voltmeter (i don't understand why we're so opposed to using proper instruments and rely on human eye/guesswork) but they all told me everything is fine from the wiring point of view, it's just a bulb issue.
The lens is also clear and the mechanics that saw it also said it doesn't need any buffing.
Does anyone have any idea or can direct me to a technician that at least has a vague understanding of how Ohm's law works and doesn't insist that all wattages produce the same current and don't harm the wires if I go for higher wattage bulbs? (joking he doesn't need to know that but at least try to fix the problem WITHOUT suggesting HIDs/LEDs as I only want my lights to work the way they're supposed to by factory specifications. No more, no less. They just keep overselling their manjan).
Thank you and sorry for the ranting problem story.
