Civic reborn fuel average affected by tappet settings

Salaam, I have a 2011 registered reborn. Two years ago, its cat converter got choked and my mechanic conveniently cut its perforated lid or whatever it's called. I got a second hand CAT installed and the average for the last two years was 7km/L in city. Recently, on someone's advice, got it's tappet settings redone. After that the average has fallen to 6 - 6.5km in city. Another change was a different engine oil used this time, maybe Zic, on the mechanics advice. So not sure what has disturbed it's fuel average. Forgot to mention, in the morning when i start my car, there is a weird smell coming out from the exhaust, which then goes away in a few minutes. Would appreciate any help here to bring back fuel average to at least 7.0 km if not more . Thanks

Fuel average goes down if oil is thick. Use 5w-30 and also get the cat checked again. It's recommended to get it cleaned at least once a year. If it gets too dirty, the increased pressure permanently damages the honey comb.

Brother please check below mentioned points and it should improve your milage

1. plugs cleaning (should use recommended irridium plugs)
2. throttle body cleaning
3. check air and oil filter
4. always use recommended 5w-30 fully synthetic oil in reborn R18 engine (i use total 9000 API SN 5w-30 fully synthetic always).
5. alignment and balancing of tyres should be done
6. tappets must have recommended setting not tighter not loose. you can check it on internet the recommended clearence for tappets.
7. catcon should be clean. pour in some good catcon cleaner (like proficar etc costs around 900 Rs).
8. use some good fuel system cleaner in the fuel (like gummout high milage fuel system cleaner costs around 480 Rs)
9. get fuel from a reputed good pump
10. keep rpm between 1-2 while driving.
11. ECU reset after above mentioned steps (by disconnecting -ve terminal of battery for 2-3 minutes and reconnecting it).

NEVER USE ANY FUEL ADDITIVE OR FUEL CLEANER OR OCTANE BOOSTER in your Honda Civic 2011. Once a week rev drive it nicely to clean all the internals and cat con itself. Now coming to tappet settings, on a good day it takes around 3 to 4 hours for valve clearances fixed as per manual. And yes average is drastically affected if valve clearanes are not properly fixed. I suggest you visit some good mechanic in your city and ask them to set clearances on cold engine, i.e. when it doesn't feel hot when u put finger on cam.

Chemically i have not yet researched. Practically i think chemicals used in these additives are harmful for catalyst convertors and every chocked convertor owner when asked says exactly using these products before coming to us for fixation. It can also be assumed that these may affect the O2 Sensors as well.

bro its categorically mentioned on good quality fuel system cleaners that they are catcon safe. they mostly have some good chemicals like PEA (gumout high milage fuel system cleaner), Chevron/3M fuel system cleaner and so on.

i think its safe and in my personal experience they do help with performance and they are usable.

Have tried most of these available in market. By tried i mean in my own cars. Those with cat cons show problems soon enough while without these treatments those cars are still running good for 1000s of kilometers. Regarding performance, no these don't give u performance like in increase of HP or anything.

yes agreed no impact on performance i.e. HP. however they do improve milage of the car as per my personal experience and in most cases the idle becomes smoother and km/L improve. Specially with STP high milage fuel injector cleaner (white bottle).

Hi! I also have honda civic reborn … my car average was about 7-8 in city but recently I installed laser iridium plug and average is now much better and after changing plugs and tuning which includes throttle service and fuel injector service my car is now giving 10 km/l in city moreover I faced little issue with gear oil too.. please only but Honda civic gear oil it is little costly but honda revorn need that gear oil ..
