here is your problem

see how wide the two ends are - they should be very close - maximum gap allowed is 1mm.

This is a tool used to close the crimp - its very strong and controlled.

The last one can be leveraged with a pair of 1/2 inch drive breaker bar and ratchet to crimp down really heavy clamps on thermoplastic boots. - The top one can also crimp down with even more force so its a good idea to keep an eye on the crimp as you are cinching it down. The two parts of the omega shape should not touch as tension is lost once that happens.

Do not try to buy cheap knockoff versions from China or aliexpress as they wont have the correct profile on the jaws and will either ruin the clamp or the boot.

What is the correct torque spec for 10th Gen Civic’s spindle nut/axle nut? 1.8l w/ CVT

Couldn’t find the specs for 1.8l in the service manual as there are specs only for 1.5l & 2.0l

Here in Pakistan we have the 1.5l and 1.8l (R18Z1) and AFAIK the 2.0l engine is only offered in USA & Canadian market.

• 2.0l Civic spindle nut is of 22mm

• 1.5l Civic spindle nut is of 24mm

And after doing a bit of research i discovered that the 1.8l and 1.5l have the same spindle size nut(part number is also same) but there’s a slight difference in part number of the driveshaft assys of both models.

Now should i use the 1.5l torque spec or the 2.0l one?

Torque specs according to fsm :

1.5l : 245 Nm/181 ft-lbs
2.0l : 181 Nm/133 ft-lbs

The spec is 180 lb/ft with a new nut and apply gear oil to the flanged face of the nut, not on threads at all.

Apply brakes to lock the brake while mechanic reefs on the torque wrench.

btw - make sure to buff out all rust on the threads before you thread the new nut on.

the oil trick is mandatory on all cars though - clean the hub face of all grease etc, where the nut will seat apply one drop of gear oil to the nut flange and spread it out, install and torque it. If workshop has power tools - make sure they dont use them to tighten that nut. That tightening should be done by hand.

Lot of youtube videos show that, its very wrong and damages the wheel bearing in most cases,

at what mileage valve clearance adjustment is required on Honda R18Z1?

the owners manual calls for this job at every 120,000 kms but the dealerships are doing this every 40,000 kms 🤦🏻‍♂️

its a rocker arm setup ig.

100K kms is a good one for this maintenance. 40,000 kms wont hurt anything other than the owners pocket.

just wanted to know what kind of grease/paste Honda recommends for a brake job.

khairr went through the service manual for 10 gen civic and this is what they recommend :

• Honda Silicone Grease or service set grease NIGLUBE RM for front brake caliper slide pins,pin bushings and boots.

• M77 paste (Molykote M77) to be used where brake pad retainer clip meets the caliper bracket and in between the shims and back of the brake pads plus on the pad ears also.

one thing I can’t figure out is that these are written for front brake caliper only and nothing is written for rear slide pins and for the rear pad shims and ears as well

now either the rear end do not require any grease/lube on any part of the brake caliper or the guys at honda forgot to write anything for it (can’t believe if that happened)

please help!!

plus i can’t see any slide pin boots on the rear caliper. looks like the pins are trapped inside in this black plastic.

The lubes are the same for the rears too.

recently went to the alignment shop to get the front end aligned as the steering wheel was crooked, they did some adjustments to the toe on both sides. Here are the after alignment results :

btw these are the factory alignment specs for Civic X:

Front Total Toe : -0.08 to 0.08 in

now the steering wheel is still slightly crooked on one side. and secondly need to ask that for what toe setting should i aim for?

should i go for a total toe in (positive toe) or should i go for total toe out (negative toe) ?

And what toe settings i need to have my steering wheel dead straight?

the total toe needs to be set to 0.00 - however a minute or so of a degree in negative is OK for a FWD car as the wheels pull forward as it accelerates.

But them screwing up the steering center is very poor workmanship - they are supposed to center it, the alignment machine has that setting and they have to rotate the steering 8 or 10 times and redo the toe to get the correct toe and caster dialed in. That automatically sets the steering wheel dead center. After that the toe is fine adjusted.

Your rear camber is messed up and the total rear toe is also messed up, check for worn out parts.

Got it. Also yes i was a bit concerned about the rear end too. btw these are the specs for rear end:

camber
-0.45 to -1.95 degrees
maximum difference allowed between both sides is 0.75 degrees

rear total toe-in
0.04 to 0.16 inches

ig these are all within spec if I’m not wrong.
what do you suggest, should i go for a rear end alignment also?

These cars always get a 4 wheel alignment as it is independent suspension, Looks like you visited someone who is a toe and go type.

and the rear total toe you wrote is in inches, while the camber you are writing in degrees. Is this whole or metric degrees? - Whole degrees have 60 minutes while decimal/metric ones are measured to 99 subunits - meaning 99 subs to a degree.
