Last weekend I was free so I decided to find out the condition of my civic’s PCV valve.
PCV stands for POSITIVE CRANCKCASE VENTILATION. Its inserted in the OIL BREATHER CHAMBER just beside the oil filter in the rear of the engine. Its other end is connected through a pipe to the lower side of the intake manifold. Just remove the clip & pull out the pipe from intake. Don’t try to remove the pipe from PCV side, rather just pull out the PCV from the breather chamber. It will simply pop out.
The PCV provides ventilation to the crank case & hot gases from crank case goes directly to the intake manifold & subsequently back to cylinders for burning.
It is also one of the culprits which cause BAD IDLE, if blocked.
Diagnosis: Just blow in the valve from both sides. It should b open from the engine side & close from other side. Its just a one way valve with a small metal ball.
Rest will be understood with the pics
(My ride is an EXi, means non vtec, but vtec engine has different location for this valve)
