CNG - Why it should'nt be in your car!

@arid, till the time v could afford petrol v ran our vehicles on petrol, yes the price of cng has also increased and vil further increase but till that time give cng users a break.

@all, One more thing, as far as i know the CNG cylinder as well as the pipes till the regulator r high pressure (HP) so v must ensure that the pipes r 2 b checked as well. I have worked on aircraft with 3000 psi hydraulics and let me tell u that a pin hole leak in this HP line vil cause a leak not traceable with naked eye and so sharp that if u move ur hand over this leak it can easily chop it off. so be very careful when chacking a HP leak. fli_gti, your position is that cng in cars is dangerous. It certainly is. However, most of us are trying to assess the relative risk of using cng, versus petrol. In order to assess this relative risk we need information about the circumstances of the explosions and damage documented in the pictures you've posted. You've said that the explosions in question took place in brazil and in mexico. Please provide us with a link to the source(s) of the pictures so that we may try to gather further information about why, when, how etc. these incidents occured.

I gave a Salah to one Pakwheeler not to install CNG in Civic Prosmatic but he said noway... he said one of his friends driving his prosmatic on CNG and the drive is as smooth as a manual car on petrol, I said ok then go ahead... CNG on Prosmatic is a pain yaar, waisay when you want the luxury of Automatic alongwith A/C on all the time, CNG is not recommended at all.

Bro u tell me a way to increase petrol mileage on my spectra from 9 to 12 and i can think of getting rid of CNG. It will sell well i know.
PLastic intake manifold, or whatever, tell me a way to rech that landmark in city with AC and i can do something about it.

I really appreciate your efforts in spreading awareness about the most neglected point that is the timely checkups for CNG.

I am 100% sure that all the existing CNG users are not really CNG ENTHUSIAST (as CNG can never give the performance what we get on PETROL), but it is a kind of 'HELPLESS' that tends us to do so. Offcourse then it is necessary for us to keep everything checked up atleast every 6 month.

Well I don't think this is a big safety issue as if u see the almost zero safety cars available in pakistan and calculate the probability of one getting into an accident compared to a cng cylinder exploding, the cylinder thing will be negligible ...........

Yes, the worst example is when you see a mehran (it has no seat belts) passing you by at 120-140kms/hour on Highway ! I have never exceeded 120km/hour on highway for some 7 to 8 years now and when i had mehran, the peak speed used to be 80 km/hour

I photographed this CNG suzuki dabba on fire enroute to my univirsity (Some three years back)

I think it was a fire not explosion. if there was no explosion and the CNG cylinder remained intact this means that there was leakage or something else which caused the fire. I dont want 2 conclude anything but cng looks safe to me if their was no xplosion which i m sure otherwise wuld have torn the dabba into million of pieces(like a bomb as the ANTI CNG group calls it. no offence meant :)).

well guys....tell me how many die each day of accidents....while crosing roads...had people stoped crossing the road.....well CNG is enviorment frndly and most of all pocket frndly...well tell me by seeing these pictures how many of us will stop using CNG...no one....well if u say CNG users are at risk....yes i admit tht....but who will responsiable for me to run my car on petrol....living in a country where one litre of petrol cost u 60 rupess....its really hard for us atleast for me to run my car on petrol...i would be much happier to run my car on a risk(CNG)

according to the latest research when a CNG explodes its flying debries are like big flying nails travelling at a very high speed..... the pictures show in this topic can tell the rest of the story just imagine what would it do to a human body if it can tear the whole car apart... i have seen the video of such incidence but it was filled with too much violence and gore that i cant share it with u all i can say is that a human body turns into a minced meat....

I dont know what pressures do they use while filling , the pressure standard we have here laid by the govt is 220, the guage's peak is at some 350+, I think they dont have any pressure limitations over there where all these incidents took place.

I think FLi is right ... that gas cylinder hasnt exploded fully, the reason ... you can see it in the pics. If it had ... that filling station at the side ... the car itself would hav been disintegrated.

The pressures are very high indeed.

In pakistan every thig is at risk.
i use CNG too.but i am not afraid.just forget about it that u are using CNG.
very few incidents happened in Pakistan.
forget petrol it will never come down.i wish that i was in quetta.atleast i could get petrol at 25/lr

some petrol pump owners have also started propoganda against CNG coz they have no ques of cars and almost out of bizness.
