Comparison between Honda City & Toyota

I am planning to buy a new car and am torn between Honda City vs Toyota Corolla - both 1.3L displacement and Automatic Transmission. Toyota is dearer by a few hundred thousand Rs, but both have similar delivery times (March / April 2019).
From an engineering, safety and reliability point of view, which is a better buy?

in older posts, i found that people generally recommended City over Corolla. I wonder why? Does that comparison still holds true in 2019?

Corolla both interms of Safety and comfort

Beacuse city still have no air bags

city has much smoother ride than corolla and has much better fuel efficiency, acceleration and road grip...it holds perfectly true for 2019...test drive both cars and then decide...corolla only wins in reliability...otherwise city wins on everything else...

i think city !
once i drive 2017 city auto in rwp and isl for 2 to 3 days it was pure love in mean of fuel average in city( giving average of 11.9 to 11.5 wid 6 people inside ) road grip, acceleration , handling etc.

City is no doubt an excellent car. Good fuel economy and rather low price in terms of the local cars in its category.
The only problem with city is a decade old shape and if you are buying a new car then you should atleast get a newer shape which currently is Corolla in terms of your options.
If you can spare some extra cash then atleast go for a newer shape

I have both City 1.5 manual and GLI 1.3 auto in my garage. I personally like corolla because of the build quality, suspension and looks. I totally agree that corolla 1.3 is under powered but city 1.3 auto is also sluggish because city 1.3 auto & 1.5 auto have same gear ratio.
I have seen people started to face issues in city after usage of 3 to 4 years which i never faced in corolla, previously i had corolla 2004 model clocked 2.5 lac kilometers.
Having said that both cars are not miles apart in terms of usage, it comes to your personal liking

sir both cars are miles apart in their drivetrains....city is smooth as milk....it is a car with amazing drive pleasure...on straight roads city is literally a flying carpet...

Corolla is a way way better car now since it has airbags now yes price is high but if you can afford it then yeah Corolla.
Better build quality than City and better suspension in terms of durability
It compromises on comfort but i still think its enough

I have both 1.5 Aspire Auto and 2016 Gli Auto i still like the Gli cause i know i can take it anywhere without worrying too much k khaday mein mar di tou sath hi rattling noises aana shuru ho jain gi and better ground Clarence, Build quality is better too its just underpowered

how often do you find straight roads in pakistan? and how often do you find straight roads without speed breakers or cat eyes? Overall city is pathetic in terms of build quality and corolla is way better than city.

Agreed and if you compare GLI auto with city 1.3 auto people also complain that city is sluggish but i never had experience with city auto so i cant comment on that.

Interesting discussion. I took the plunge and bought a 1.3L City yesterday. Hope it turns out to be a good decision.
