Conversion of Toyota Diesel Engines from 2L to 3L

AoA Bros, I own Toyota Prado 1990 model with 2400cc 2L Engine that need a rebuild. So i wanted to upgrade to 3L 2800cc engine. a mechanic suggested to just change crank shaft, pistons with rebored block of 2L. Is it doable and what should be cost in Rawalpindi. Regards

Your better of buying a 3L engine than modifying a 2L since they have different block heights to accommodate the crankshaft and also the 3L has a bigger bore than the 2L so you'll need to modify the head as well. Swap in a 3L with loom and ecu.

sir rebuilding an engine with oem parts shall be your 1st choice @dani_kk @rajaatta are the members who own workshops in twin cities. check out both places and decided what suits you best. engine change from junk yard is not recommended.

Just for discussion sake, I have scanned through Engine Repair Manuals of 2LT adn 3L engines. As per specs, head and block of both engine is the same. Only difference that i could see was Bore & stroke, position of crankshaft lubricating holes (even connecting rods are same) and pressure of injection pump (lower in case of 3L) leading to higher compression ratio in 3L. Anyone who may have tried it, is requested to share his experience.

The problem is the bore spacing. A 2L can be bored out 2-3mm safely before you risk thinning out the cylinder walls.
