old corolla didnt have a PWM sensor on the compressor, just a magnet clutch on its nose.

other cars like Fords have a compressor with both a clutch and a PWM solenoid - meaning it uses both technologies in the same compressor.

They work fantastic - just like the Toyota ones. Never seen one fail just because it wanted to take a dump. AC parts suppliers here actually made small videos explaining to independant techs/mechanics on what happens if the system is handled wrong. Car manufacturers did their own but for their own mechanics.

In Pakistan - the killer is 20 saal tajurbaa! and the nawaab owner who thinks AC means "thandi masheen"

So why these pwm sensor one fails..sometimes it completely stops working and sometimes it just give no or less cooling.

The old type compressor is fixed load and results in poorer fuel mileage hence higher emmissions. it also doesnt care for 10% over or undercharge.

the PWM type cannot sustain even a 5% over or undercharge and will go into failsafe mode if the system is overloaded - e.g. you park the car in 45C heat making cabin reach 75C inside. Then sit in the car and force the AC to handle the 75C heat. It wont and will make the compressor go to zero pumping mode.

The old style unit - will keep pumping albiet inefficiently till it heat soaks the heat exchangers and then slowly get to work once the system stabilised.

Alright, I was facing the similar case, but my car didn't even give good cooling even if it was parked under shade. It totally stopped working on a day when car was showing 48 degree temperature on the meter cluster.
Sir, How to jailbreak the failsafe mode? Just curious.

Yes I lost 1km/l within city with clutch type during summers. It was 12-14km/l now its 10-11km/l.
Although it remained the same at cruise because it turns on and off after certain time.

let the cabin cool down - by opening the doors and let fresh air into the cab before setting off for your drive, If the AC doesnt kick on - press the AC button to off and wait 4 minutes (keep blower running if you can) - then restart the AC, it should start pumping.

If you do it before the 4 or 5 minute rest period it will again go to no pumping mode.
