Corolla 88 Engine Swap, Need Guidance & Suggestions

Also need help on this matter.

The wind screen of the car is replaced twice and now its leaking, mean to say that during very very heavy rain water enters into the cabin from sides & corners. This is not happen during washing/service of car at service station, only happen during very very heavy rain.

The denter said that the wind screen molding (gola) has to be taken off and then applied again with silicon. He also said that the old molding will not fit in exact straight line mean to say that it will not fit like factory fitted because the molding is old and hard now.

Denter also said that in order to fit the wind screen molding like factory fitted you have to buy a genuine (kabli) or new Taiwan/Thailand made molding and it is difficult to find genuine (kabli) molding.

Now tell me what should I do.....Either go for genuine (kabli) molding or new Taiwan/Thailand made molding?

ANd You Need To Alter Bracket On Cross Member? They Line Up?

Since Manifold Are Opposite In These Engines....All These Question Rotate In Mind..

I am changing shocks with the new ones.......So is it a good idea to put lowering springs instead of stock springs just to drop the height by 0.5 to 1.0 inch?

Exactly My Concern....The Heat And Clearance Will Make It Leak For Sure.....!

Atleast Cover It Up With Some Shield....And Don't Run A Fuel Line Near That Area....If There's Return Line...Remove It From Here

The Clearance Is Quiet Low That I Wonder How Would Anyone Work On Tightening Steering Lack Pressure Lines....The Shield Thing Also Looks Quiet A Job In Close Clearance Like This..

Before going for swap I want to get rid of three main problems.

1. Road Grip
2. Steering Wheel Vibration
3. Fuel Gauge

1. This is the most important issue as there is no road grip. At normal or high speeds when you try to make a certain quick turn (cut maarna) then it feels like the car will lift off the road and gonna roll over and it is a very scary moment.

I don't know what is the main cause of this problem, but I think the shock absorbers are the main culprit because when passing over a jump you have to be very very slow otherwise the car will bounce and hit the jump. Also the shock absorbers are soft and not as stiff as they should have to be.

In addition to shock absorbers, I think the upper and lower control arm bushes are also contributing a major part to this problem. Might be there would be any other issue of having no road grip.

2. At slow speed there is no vibration in steering wheel, but at a speed of about 90 km/h the vibration in steering wheel starts and as speed increases, vibration also increases in steering wheel but at a slow pace. It might be due to wheel balancing or power steering rack (kangi) but I have no idea about it.

3. The fuel gauge is not working properly nor its reserve fuel sensor light. Fuel gauge is also showing more fuel but in actual the fuel is less. While driving the gauge shows different value as compared to when the car is at rest. for example while driving the gauge shows half tank of fuel and when the vehicle is stand still then after some time the gauge shows quarter tank of fuel.

Please give your guidance in these problems.

1.Steering Rack Ends , Front Lower Arms , Ball Joinnts Bushes Need To Be Checked Replaced Along With Replacement Of Shocks....DOn't Go For Old Ones Or Reepaired...Get A Pair Of NEW And Remain In Peace For Long....!

1. That Can Be Issue Of Your STeering Rack And Rack Ends Along With Alignment...Replace EVerything Needed Once And Then In Last Get It Aligned....!

3.You Need To Check What Is Faulty...Usually Fuel Gauges In-Tank Goes Bad....Get A New One And Replace....!

In fact there is no return line, when we ask mechanic why there is no return line, he said that this engine does not came with return line and I don't know either he is telling right or wrong? Currently the fuel pump is working without return line, so is there need to add a return line?

what SER mentioned is to remove the old original return line, we already know your engine is dead head system with no return line.

For the rack you need to make heat shields for the exhaust headers or make new headers too. You also need a P/S oil cooler regardless of the heatshield now as there would be a lot of heat being absorbed into the rack just from the design of the engine.

In new there is further two categories, one is local made and other is Taiwan/Thailand made. Springs also have to be changed or its just the shocks? If yes then can I change springs with lowering springs in order to lower the height by 0.5-1.0 inch or go for stock springs?

3. Does the fuel gauge comes with the reserve fuel light indicator? Because I also want to connect that reserve fuel light indicator. Currently the engine is 2E carb, but after swap it would be an Efi engine, so after swap what modification has to be done to fuel tank or just the fuel pump will be changed?

I think it is a good idea to do both things..........make new headers and also heat shield them. In this way the clearance will also increase.

How a P/S oil cooler look like, can you share a picture?

What is the specific name of heat shield or its just called as "heat shield"? Easily available? Are you referring this type of heat shield?

With Fuel Return Line...I Mean That Old Line Which Usually Is located Almost On This Side Of Bay......Just Remove It As Its Still Leading To Fuel Tank If Not Removed...Consider It A Safety Precaution....! These Engines Dont Have Return Lines Like A-E Series On Fuel Rail ...

I Mean Everything In Suspension.....Open It Completely Including Steering Rack....All Bushes......Ball Joints.....Shocks.....

Springs Depend On Its Condition...Keep New OEM And Your One SIde To Side And See The Diff In Height.....

I Dont Know If Your Cluster Panel Have Indicator Light Or Not But Cars Do COme With It...So As Your Fuel Gauge.....

Regarding EFI So Fuel Pump Need Change And The New Ones With No Return Line Have Diff Baffle System ..So Your Fuel Tank Might Need Mod to Fit That ... Your Current Fuel Gauge Might Remain On Same Location So Just Change Fuel Pump And Keep This As Separate Because Newer Models Have All In One Thing....
