I have recently changed the automatic transmission fluid of my Corolla Altis 1.6 at about 52k Km, a bit earlier than 55k as recommended in the owner's manual. I purchased a 4 Ltr. can of Toyota ATF WS oil. The oil change method was complete removal of oil sump pan and filter (not just the oil drain plug). The process took about 3 hours or more till last drop of oil dripped out of the transmission. The car was lifted in a horizontally levelled position. After washing with petrol and drying of the transmission filter (using compressed air) the sump was closed. (i didnt approve of the cleaning of filter with petrol as some petrol left in the filter can foul the transmission oil. so made sure the filter was as clean of petrol as possible). the mechanic then poured about 3.7 to 3.8 ltrs of fluid in the transmission and handed me the remaining to top off if necessary. The manual also states 3.5 to 3.7 ltrs of oil for oil change.
After that when when I reached home and found that the level of oil was higher than the top-most notch on the dipstick. At position A shown in the following picture (when cold and car is parked for long)
So I took out about 700 ml of oil from the dipstick tube, which i think is a huge quantity of oil. and drove the cars for some time. now the oil level shows at point B in the above picture (when cold). see the huge quantity that I have extracted as shown in the pic below
The owner's manual doesn't describe the procedure to check the transmission oil but I think the correct procedure is to drive the car for a KM or 2 then see the dipstick. Each time I have checked irrespective of hot or cold the dipstick shows the oil higher than pt. C.
The level of oil is obviously not at the right level. I have driven the car about 1000 Km since change of oil and have gradually extracted about 700 ml oil out of the transmission during this period. The transmission is working fine. So what should I do regarding the level of oil?
Since I have already extracted 700 ml oil, there might be 3.1- 3.2 ltrs of oil left that was poured in at the time of oil change (which is already short of the quantity the manual tells to change). Now in order to bring the level of oil to point D (between the notches indicating the cold level), I will have to extract 1 ltr of oil. and that will make the quantity of oil that was poured in, nearly equal to 2 litres.
So I need advice from the members. esp. @Xulfiqar regarding what should I do next:
a. pour back the 700 ml oil and forget all about oil level till next oil change
b. remove oil further to below hot levels and above cold level (somewhere between C and D)
c. remove oil to strictly bring the level between the Cold hi and cold low (point D in the picture)
d. take the car to a mechanic or Toyota Dealership and open up the oil sump. there is something wrong
