I recently sat in a Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8 2010 model and it almost sounds like a diesel engine at idle. As I step on the gas to accelerate, it sounds more and more like a diesel engine Corolla 2.0D (2000-2006 model) would sound. Engine oil is okay. The car's 110,000kms driven...which shouldn't be a lot.
Do all Corolla Altis 1.8 2009-2010 models sound almost like a Corolla 2.0 Diesel engine or they sound more like a refined Honda Civic or Honda City engine because I don't have another same generation Corolla Altis to compare my Car's issue to.
Is there a possibility that the engine might be a lost case? Problems with the crankshaft, piston slapping, rod bearings knocking?
Can anyone please help and explain what exactly is the problem here and how can it be fixed?
