Corolla Diesel Fuel Average

Hi guys,
I have just got a Corolla 2.0D, 2004 model and 55000 driven, engine in very good condition. can any body tell me whats the good fuel average for this car, and give me some tips for fuel efficiency.

12km/L in the city to 16km/L Highway.

Light foot on the gas and short shifting.
31 psi in all four tyres. Less static run wid A/C.

I drive it almost 100+ KM daily, from Wah to Islamabad, mostly on GT road in 4th & 5th gear with AC and its giving me an average of 13KM/Liter. I also enjoy its good pick most often. is the average ok?

I have also checked its time, it takes about 18 seconds to reach from 0 to 100 (with AC), is it a good pick? how can v compare it with other petrol cars of same category (GLI, SE Saloon, EXI, VTI etc.)

18-odd seconds seem about right given the BHP/weight ratio and the fact that you drove it like your car.

13 km/L is not bad. But it can be better.
18 Seconds is again not bad for a twenty year old engine design.
Diesel engines of the mid eighties were known for torque more than Pickup.
Even a latest 1.3 XLi wid a Z gen engine will beat it any time.

And I have been to that perticular strech of GT road ur talking bout. The trafic is really bad. I sure quite often U must be finding urself stuck on the Sungjani toll plaza. 13 is Ok for that strech of GT rd.

13 km/l is pretty good.
Howver pick I find quite slow, 18 seconds is quite a lot for a 2000 Diesel manual transmission. It should be around 12-14 at max I think-

My automatic Vti 2003 1600cc Petrol goes from 0-100 in about 10 seconds. A 2000 Diesel manual should be just as quick

However, diesel is supposed to produce much more torque and less hp than their petrol counterparts.

i am getting 11.5 km/l in city with AC on. ( i have 16 inch rims with 205 tyres )

18 without ac in city!
20 km on highway ac!
22 without ac!

I have a 2.0DSaloon 2005 almost 70k kms!
Tyres,,14inch 185.
Air filter,,changed after 5k kms
Oil filter+oil changed 2500 kms,,,oil used,,Beverol Milo!

Thanx all, I think the theory is right that these old tech. diesel engines give good torque but does not offer v.good accellaration. @hsumbal1, u r right about traffic problems on this patch of GT road, espacially Tarnol and other diversions, u also said that this average of 13 KM can be improved, can u plz guide me how to improve it.

@ADILG, the average u mentioned is really amazing. I wish I could get an average close to it. I believe engines are same same in 2.0D and and 2.0D Saloon. I am also taking v.good care of it especially air filter and engine oil, the only difference is that I have 205/65/15 tyres in my car. and what is this engine oil 'Beverol Milo'? i never heard about it before! is it really good? and how much it cost? Currently I m using Toyota's engine oil and get it changed by Toyota Islambad motors.

@sheikh_wah yea 2.0D and saloon both have same engines,,,to get good fuel average,,,you have to shift gears at low revs,,on the highway,,dont exceed speeds over 115km/h.. and if you are using 15inch tyres than your speed should be around 100km/h! 205`s also drink more fuel compared to 185!

And about the engine oil Beverol MILO,,,its made in Holland,,,not available in shops,,its smuggled and my dad is using the same oil since 1995,,in nissan sunny 2.0D,In a corolla 2.0D 2000model and now in the present car!
Sunny when was driven under 50k kms ,,gave an avg of 25-26km/liter!!

@Human genius 0-100 is not 18seconds bro,,it is between 13 to 14 seconds,,i`ve tested it by myself many many many times!!

@ADILG, how/where can one get this oil and how much it cost?is there any fuel adjustment and nozel callebaration sort of thing effecting the fuel consumption?

i get about 14-14.5 km/ltr in city with AC on 2005 2.0d saloon. and it does not take 18 secs to reach 100km/hr. takes more like 13-14 like mentioned above...

i never feel that there is no pickup. i love it's torque. does not lose pickup or power on straight roads or on hill climbs even with 5 big guys sitting inside. you cannot do that in an xli/gli

Great averages you guys are fetching out of your 2D's. Mine is just 13 on highways without AC. 11 - 12 with AC in city.

On HW 2.OD is superb, but in City especially 1st 3 Gears it cannot achieve good figures, From ISB to PSH and back with 1/4 Tank still thr with 70% AC and speeds upto 170km/hr with 2.OD 2008.
On 1997 2.OD also very nice, Xli and Gli are not feeling nice on MW or HWs as 2.OD feel much stable.

yes 2.0d is very stable at high speeds.

@Sabzwari...yar i have not done anything on the car's engine. just regular oil/fuel filter changes etc. nothing else. i got it zero meter so i know nothing has been altered or changed.
for the first 4 years used genuine toyota motor oil and toyota oil/air/fuel filters. now i am using Caltex Delo Gold engine oil and Guard filters
