Corolla Grande 1.8 CVT Fluid - Question from Experts

Bhai jaan please diagnose the noise first properly. It might be some thing else. CVT transmission does not make any noises and if u are hearing something similar in two more cars then thats how it is and thats how it functions. I used to have similar problem with my previous altis 1.6 many guys said its the transmission but it turned out to be the timing chain tensioner. Give it some time and see

i used to wonder where that whining noise came from and whether it was happening only with me.. always remind me of diesel engines.

Cvt doesn’t makes any noise. My car Is at 50,000kms. I will change its cvt fluid at 55k kms, and there isn’t any sound. Please diagnose this issue.
Ac compressor or some bearing can also make noise due to some issue.

@nabeeliqbal12 i used to had a 1.3 gli auto which was silent without anything as abnormal noises. but yes this variant of 1.8 is not that silent when car approaches its operational temperature or after a drive of 30mins or so.
so yes i took to dealership and asked what the matter they found out nothing wrong. then i observed 2 of the more cars having the same 100% whinning noise so i was satisfied, that is just how it sounds like. so lets just enjoy.

mine, a cousins, and a friends only 3 of the cars were observed by me personally and all of them was making that exact noise after achieveing operational temperature so i think its normal rather any abnormal noise.

but my question on the other hand was CVT Fluid refill. what if we lose 0.25litres of CVT fluid from that of what comes from factory, toyota guys says its still is sufficent but i rreally dont trust on what they say,

the noise is barely noticeable as to many people its not noticable.
but on a calm winter night where there is silence all around we can hear it and its there in all the grandes i have checked so far.

the humm is audiable only in drop dead silence as in a graveyard at night,

during the drive that is nothing unusual all CVTs make such hum i noticed it only when driving at night during winters with blower off and quiet of night over coastal highway. (in a grande)

Check the CVT oil level after puting the car in reverse. Reduced Oil level may cause an irrepairable fault in CVT. As far mechanics in these company 3s are concerned, mostly they don't know a thing, & the ones with a bit little know how usually leave & open their own shops. It took Honda years to come to know that CVT shouldn't be filled with regular trans oil & their is special oil for CVT's

I have corolla altis 1.8 CVT and i am also able to hear a whining small jet like sound when coming down from high speed to stationary and picking up from stationary to some speed. But its noticeable only when you focus a lot and i have searched the internet and people mention that this type of noise is normal for CVT transmission, Please let us know if you have any other findings. Also once the oil is taken out after 20k it would have been best to use a new pin pack cane for refilling the gear box and drive another 40k on it.. Please let me know which 3s you went to and how long it takes to change the CVT oil?

In Owners manual of the car the quantity of CVT oil is written as 7.5l ?! I want to confirm that what was the exact amount of oil which came out from factory filled car, i have asked from dealership mechanic and he said that they pour 3.8l of CVT oil in it normally after 65000KM and leave 0.2l in the 4l tin they also open the chamber and clean the filter.

Also the part which you have highlighted in white circle , is this responsible for this sound ? what is this part for? any idea ?!

CVT oil is written as 7.5l

that quantity is poured into a DRY CVT upon assembly of new, re-built or at flushing of transmission, - normally the change of ATF fluid is recommended after 65000 kms and it takes only 3.8 liters.

Thanks for the info, so we can assume that it doesn't drain all of the cvt oil so that why we need to refil only 3.8l.

Not assume but surely one can drain only 3.8 litres of cvt oil from car unless whole gearbox is opened in that case 7L is needed.

You can’t drain all the oil but you can refresh most of it.
Drain old oil refill new one, and drive it for few kilometers. Drain again and refill new one again. Cost will increase in this, but you will renew almost 90% oil in transmission.

Hi Btw issue has been resolved, but i only hear humming or jet like whinning sound when driven at high rpms consistently. Like in between 4-6k rpm only, but it’s normal. My car is at 51k kms at this moment.

Hello I just changed cvt oil of my Toyota grande 2016 model and mechanic poured 3 L in it and saved 1 L. He told me that only 3 L is needed. So I want to ask that in grande 3 L is req or 4?
