Hi Pak wheelers,

Is slight knocking a common thing in 1.8 Grande?

When Idle, the sound engines is a bit hard. May be it is a common thing but not sure.

No, it's not common, especially not in the 2019 model Grande.
I suggest you take your car to the dealership if it's still under warranty and get it checked and whatever diagnosis they will give you, take a second opinion from some expert mechanic.

The rest is your choice.

Not a common thing at all. There is no knocking in this engine. Take it to dealership and get it checked under warranty.

Straight off the bat, get it diagnosed on a scanner from 3S instead of hit/miss trial method. Though not likely (for a 2019 Model), nevertheless, fuel and/or spark plugs could be an issue.

Whatever steps are taken and then the solution/ cost, please do come back and post here to contribute to the knowledge base.

if the mileage in below 10k or 6k --- then a simple diagnose / check-up will clear it.

Hi All, thank you for your feedback. Im attaching a short video. I took it to the dealership and they said its normal sound of 1800 cc engine. Its not knocking. I have to use Octane for 2 tanks now. I hope this is normal

Judging from whatever your mic picked up/recorded and whatever my crappy laptop's tiny speakers reproduced, the sound seems normal, more like a cold engine. But anyways, just get a usual tune up and you should be good to go. Hope the car is performing okay apart from the perceived "knocking sound"

Yes. Normal condition is perfectly fine.

And yes, it was a cold start. Lets see what other's say about this

in cold start my 1.6 altis also makes similar noise. although when rpm reaches around 700 it goes away

It doesn't sound like a knocking to me. I think it's the normal sound of a cold start.
By the way. what grade of Engine oil and brand are you using @manii009?

is this in factory filed oil?
if changed which one and what viscosity

I changed the oil at 2500 km as i do not have that much of running.

Is the one toyota used, tagalon fully synthetic i guess.

Car is 1 year old and ran 3980 km

Bro is taglon fully synthetic 5w30 i think used by toyota. I got it changed at the dealership

Your engine sounds perfect. There is no knocking (missing).
