Corolla or Civic

Hi there, i have been in a great dilemma for last one month ever since I decided to change my ride from Suzuki Alto to either used Civic or Corolla.
Some of my friends ask me to buy a corolla and some advise me to go for civic.
After all this discussion i still could not decide what to do, that is why I decided to take help of you pakwheelers. I am a salaried person earning around 60k a month so the expenses of the car do matter. Keeping all the pros and cons of both of those cars i request you all to help me chose a good car. My budget is around 900k, so also advise me to go for which model? I will be so grateful of your for your replies and advices.

Corolla: Good Ground Clearance, bad handling
Civic : Lower than Corolla with a Better Handling.

Corolla: Less options
Civic: More options.

Corolla: Rough and tough
Civic: Needs to be cared for.

Get a Civic in nice condition, it is a better car, if you cannot find a good Civic then buy a Corolla.

Good Corolla owners are really asking more then a Civic.

2004-05 Eagle Eye VTI manual or EXI PROSMATEC, 50-75K KM done on CNG, preferably on petrol, even if 100K done, you can get that in 900K.

2004-05 SE Saloon AUTO in a good condition or 2006-07 Xli will be a good choice.

Corolla has less expenses, more resale.

But everything depends on the previous owner, how hes has treated the car, no matter its corolla civic or a benz.

Look for the personality and maintenance behavior of the previous owner carefully, before buying a car.

Dear brother your comments are really helpful. I have been using Alto 2007 for last 39 months which I drove for 36000 km. For your kind information i visited the most of the show rooms here in Multan but the Civics which i saw were mostly EXIs and I was asked 1050k for almost all of these EXIs. There is an EXI with very good condtion and 100k on the meter which I am going to see today, owner asking for 800k but tends to sell for 780k. I need your advice on this particular car also.

Honda demands more maintenance cost but it is more comfertable than Corolla. Since you are a salaried person and you must be looking to protect your investment in case of re-sale of your car. It is observed that Corolla has more resale than Honda. Put simply, of you need more quality drive then go for Honda and if you want re-sale then Corolla.

Civic = Quality Ride with Drive Pleasure. Demands Care. Not much economical as compared to rolla in terms of maintenance.

There was a face lift in August 2004 called Eagle eye, with double beam lights, rear disc brakes (EXI), change interior (Beige), Changed rear lights (round appearance) and Cd changer plus reshaped bumpers with fog lights.

VTI from the beginning has advantages of 1.6L III stage VTEC (130PS) instead of EXI 1.5L (108PS) and retractable side mirrors, Central locking (Factory), ABS brakes and Map light plus genuine 15" alloys and tyres instead of EXI's 14" wheel covers.

Oriel has a Sunroof, while PROSMATEC is AUTO transmission, UG is Upgrade for leather seats, there was also a NAV TRACK and C Track option available.

I will advise you to go for a VTI 2004 August with Eagle Eye, even if it is in normal condition, preferably on Petrol 50-75K driven.

The pre Eagle Eye (Facelift) Civic are considerable cheap and command less resale.

If you cannot find a VTI, go for an EXI PROSMATEC Eagle Eye again with petrol and Honda maintained even if its mileage is close to 100K.

Check the Power steering for any nosie/hardness, suspensions and engine.

Can you post all the pictures/condition of Civics you are going to inspect?

I prefer buying from an individual, because they are genuine sellers.

If you cannot find a VTI in pre facelift model then go for the EXI.

Go for Civic, much more comfortable, more driving pleasure, looks, options and interior quality. As for which one, 959 has posted very useful information, with 900K budget, you should be able to find a good 2004-5 civic.

COROLLA!
I know its much expensive then Civic and options are less but its spare parts are cheap and it wont make you visit the worship almost everyday.
And Toyota's market is more then that of Civic so if you keep the ride in a good condition, it wont give you a loss.

If we go to the less maintenance/cheap parts/ better resale/ Rough tough thing then he should buy a Cultus VXL.

The philosophy behind all low maintenance cars are less engineering.

I remember when I went to the Toyota showroom in 2005, Xli had a factory price of 750K Rs and it has manual windows, no tachometer and no rear seat belts, with black side mirrors and side moldings, then we went to Honda's showroom and even base EXI costing 900K was looking like a S class comparatively with 4 spoke steering, rear seat belts, Cd Changer with 10 disc, tachometer, Rev limiter, brake mount lights, 14" wheels, 1.5L (108PS) and flat floor.

Donnot go for Vti, YES. Vti's are fun to drive but think about fuel. Our eagle eye VTi used to guzzle alot of fuel and atlast we were forced to sale it and brought an EXi Prosmatec which indeed surprised us by giving 10km/l in the city and 15km/l on the highway. Plus sunroof and ABS donnot matter much only if you drive decently [Asin donnot hit 100kph+ on every straight road you find which Vti's usually tempt us to do]

Lastly, Exi is a very decent and its rubbish that honda's have maintaines issues, we're keeping civic since 1996 and we havnt faced any MAJOR issues. Chotay motay masla har gari k saath hotay hein. Aur woh bhi nahin hoon *** if u maintain your by changing filters, oils, using good quality fuel etc.

As for corolla, LOL!!!

Its a 9 years old car, 100K, it cannot fetch more then 700K in Karachi, no matter how good its condition is.

Multan car market is relatively very small, choices are fewer, if you think it is a well maintained car give him a offer of 750K.

But I think you should search a bit more if you can find a VTI or an EXI with 50-75K km.

If you think you have looked enough cars, then go for it.

Just check the power steering and suspension again thoroughly.

hello sir u must go with civic vti or vti oriel it enough good as compare to corolla i have both corolla 2005 and civic 2001 vti oriel but i say go with civic. it best in suspenion,brakes as compare to corolla and civic donot need must maintain as compare to corolla and if u take care of ur car it have more resale or if u donot lookaftar ur car it have low resle at last i say honda is the best in car and motorcycle

IS it a good idea to go Karachi and find one there? I belong to Karachi and all of my family and relatives live in Karachi so is it a good idea to ask them to find some good civics and then I go and choose the one which suits me the best?
Please advise.

A couple of months back i sold my EXi 2002 with 90K on meter for 725K and that was the max i got according to market. so EXi with 100K on meter shall not be any higher than 700K.

Btw i faced the same dilema 2 years back to choose between Corolla and Civic. I chose civic for its low price yet better options in car and believe me I sold the car higher than my purchase price after using it for 2 years so forget about the resale problem just focus on the maximum available features in the car. I had to take the car to Honda dealership only twice during 2 years and i drove this car around 30,000 Kms so you can rest assured that it is all hype about civics going again and again to workshops.

That is an excellent idea to come to Karachi, you are welcome if you need any of my assistance.

The only problem can be that a Karachi registered number will have a low resale in Punjab market.

Or you have to re register the car in that Province.

You also have to transport your car from Karachi to Multan for 10-13K Rs.

You can even find a 2004 Eagle Eye EXI for 800K here in a normal condition, and a clean VTI PROSMATEC 2002-03 for 800K 75-100K on Petrol.

I'll advise u to buy it from the Lahore market, than Karachi.

Preferably buy a 06XLI, or settle for an 04vti if found in that range. Cars in Lahore are relatively cheaper than Islamabad so i guess ull find it in that range

Buying from Lahore is also a good idea.

I strongly suggest that you go for a 2004-05 Eagle Eye VTI, or a SE Saloon AUTO (if you find a good Corolla), if you have a budget of 900K, that will have a probability of less mileage and high resale.

2004 SE Saloon AUTO or manual 850K Rs (50-80K km driven), 2004 Eagle Eye VTI manual 850-900K, 2005 EXI PROSMATEC/Manual 900K Rs, in a good condition(50-100K km driven).

Also you will get more high end features.

Also please at the time of cutting the deal take along with you a person who has a same model Civic in his possession, to have an expert opinion.
