Corolla vs Civic vs Vezel

Salam Brothers,

I’ve been thinking about upgrading from my 2009 Belta and currently have three cars in mind: Corolla, Civic, and Vezel. I’m not very well-versed in car specs, so I’d really appreciate your advice on which one suits my needs best.

Here’s what matters most to me:

I have a family of 6, so space and comfort are key.

The car will be driven around Karachi, so it needs to handle rough roads and traffic well.

Fuel economy is important, but I’m willing to compromise a bit if the car is cost-effective in the long run (i.e. not too heavy on maintenance or repairs).

Also wanted to know the difference between cvt and ect transmission and which ones better in terms of power and fuel average.

Can you help me understand the pros and cons of each option? I’d love to hear your experiences or suggestions. JazakAllah in advance!

I believe BRV suits your needs better. Good ground clearance, spacious interior and fuel economy. Otherwise you can go for Corolla.

CVTs have one gear that is variable, thus emulating shifting gears. This technology allows cars to be quite efficient at cruising speeds, especially at higher speeds. CVTs are a pain to repair and some have a reputation of not lasting as long. ECTs are your standard automatic transmissions that have stood the test of time, you may feel a shift compared to CVTs which are supposed to be seamless but ECTs are in general more reliable and foolproof. The Vezel actually has a dry DCT, a transmission with two clutches one for odd numbered gears and one for even numbered gears to allow the quickest possible shifting. On our pakistani roads this however often leads to a clunky ride because of sudden breaks as the car may want to upshift but suddenly you need to break. Generally this transmission is the most different and needs light adjustments on how it is driven to avoid it overheating.

So naturally when it comes between corolla and civic I would say that civic works better for well built roads and corolla works better for bumpy roads. Fuel average often tends to be a little better for corollas but not necessarily by a lot. I'd say Corolla would work better for you

how's the maintainace cost of cvt compared to ect and would it be better to get a 1.6 ect or grande

Both are great cars, 1.6 does a little better fuel consumption wise if you're traveling in the city and Grande is more efficient for highways. Personally I feel that if more than 2 people are sitting in a 1.6 Altis the performance drops quite a bit.

In terms of maintenance the ETC is a bit easier but the Grande CVT is solid enough to be problem free for 200k km. Costs are not so much of a difference compared to requiring the right expertise to service a CVT. Considering how many Grandes there are this should not be a problem. Make sure to get a 1.6 or Grande that is at least a facelift (2018 and onwards) as the drive feel is much improved and the 1.6 gets loads of upgrades with its cluster and rear usbs.

That's what I was thinking—either getting a 2020 onwards Grande or a 2018 one that's converted into an X with fewer miles on it if there's no significant change between them. I mean, how bad fuel average can a Grande give me in the city? As of now, my Belta has been giving me 9.5 km/l in city. I'd rather have a Grande that gives about that would atleast have the power beneath my foot.

not that big of a difference really in the city, 11 in a 1.6 and maybe 10 on a grande with a decent amount of traffic. With less traffic the numbers would just go up to maximum 13 km/l

Brv is not under powered . It gives mileage of 13-14 on Motorway and 10 in city
