Corolla Xli 2009 Recommendations for engine oil grade!

Hey guys ! Assalam-o-alaikum . I recently replaced head assembly of my car with same engine(2nz-fe) since the old one was having issues. I dont know how much the qabli engine that i put in my car was driven. But its condition was very good . When we removed the cover it was golden on the inside , red coolant was still in there and half liter oil that came out was in good condition and not black at all.
So now its been a month and i have driven it 3500 kms with no issues &no oil reduction. The mechanic put 10w40(toyota genuine oil in it. ) after the replacement.
I just came to kow that the recommended grade is 5w30 for 2nz-fe. Can i go for 5w30(havoline fully synthetic) after using 10w40 . Will it be safe? What do you guys suggest? Looking forward to suggestions since i will be going for an oil change tomorrow.

There isn't a straight answer for this, it's different for every engine. What you can do is note your fuel average on 10w40, note any rough idles, any feedback issues, anywhere it is sluggish, how easy it starts, in general, how your engine performs with 10w40.

Pour your 5w30 oil, and after 200 kms so oil has properly settled in, note down fuel average, if the oil eliminated or caused any extra noises ( corolla engines tend to make tappet noises when the wrong grade is used). Note if the engine feels more responsive or lighter.

If 5w30 perfroms better and gives more fuel efficiency, it is then also protecting the engine better.

One more thing, if you use synthetic, it may leak out of some seals, if it doesn't, you can continue using it.

Thanks brother! The average on 10w40 is around 14.5 altogether (local+highway). I'll be puring 5w30 tomorrow InshaAllah. And notice all the things mentioned above. Thanks for your feedback. Btw someone recommended me havoline. Do you recommend this brand?

Any brand is good as long it isn't counterfeit.
Personally, I use Total Quartz 9000 ( i think) in my 16 GLI. Starts up in a second even after sitting for 2 weeks in the Lahore winter ( temps dropped to 2C) and there was no wierd engine noise. Engine doesn't feel sluggish
I drive with a very heavy foot in city and get 11-12 kml. My friend uses Havoline, he is pretty satisfied. Everyone who uses havoline sticks to it. I haven't used it yet, though.

I'd reccomend staying away from Shell, I used it in my mehran after buying from petrol pump, changed it after 500 kms because it made alot of wierd noises and engine started to jerk alot.

Counterfeit oil can't be recognized by packaging, but you can check the condition of can and manufacturing date. A good indication is that original oil will have a faint chemical smell and counterfeit oil will have a harsh burning smell. Counterfeit oil also doesn't contain any detergents, so it will either get black ( not brown, original turns brown after a few hundred kms) very quick or it won't change color AT ALL and will still maintain the burning smell.

That is why i would say, even if it looks stupid, smell the oil before you put it in your engine.

If the fuel average drops after using 5w30 or you feel as if engine isn't as responsive, it is because of possibie metal to metal contact which is friction, which leads to innefecient engine and faster wear n tear.

Thicker oil puts more load on engine which causes it to work harder and reduce useable power.

Too thick oil will increase load and oil pressure, while too thin oil will decrease oil pressure and not create a strong oil film.
