Corolla XLi 2010 - Catalytic Converter broken

I am experiencing high fuel consumption and sound on acceleration for some time. Further i also had this fuel burning smell coming . i got checked with the Mechanic and he opened the catalytic converter. He told me that the jali in first catalytic converter is broken and not sure about the second one.
He suggested to either replace the whole unit which cost around 25 K to 30 K from Shersha market or just change the bad catalytic converter with normal dholki o reduce the sound.

i see no logic on spending 30k on old car which i will replace in a year or so but i am worried whether the local dholki will improve the mileage or not and whether it will effect the engine in any way ?

Just replace with local dhoalki of same shape and observe the sound. If its fine then your problem is solved. Dont let the guy change some mismatched dhulki of different shape.

Catalytic converter in 2010 model corolla I don’t think it has catalytic converter.... recheck with other mechanics as well.... as far as i know corolla came with catalytic converter in 2012 model onwards.... maybe others can shed some light on this....

XLI 2010 have two catalytic converters but only one O2 sensor on manifold where as GLI have two sensors one at manifold and second between two CC

Thanks . do you think the burning fuel smell is due to this problem or its something else

Well cant sure of the smell, but as the car gets old it may not be smelling like a new car anyways. So if the mileage, pick and sound is okie then go ahead. Foul smell of fuel can be due to other issues as well.
