Hello... I own cultus 2012 euro 2 111k km driven. I am using zic 10w40 fully synthetic engine oil since last 2 years. Recently someone told me cultus owner manual recommends api SG. My question is
1. should i switch to api SG/SJ or stick to api SN?
2. Is zic 10w40 (fully synthetic) is good for engine life?
Experts advice required pls.

For ZIC, irrespective fully synthetic, but being API SN, I think not good.

If that oil is not causing any issue then IMO you don't need to change it. Again the oil which @basitali87 bhai suggest you is good option

As your car is much old. Then never go for oil change experiment. BTW zic oil is good in performance.

Bro, it's perfectly okay to use SN grade oil since it is better than SJ (newer technology) and 10W40 synthetic is perfect to use, unless you see oil reduction problem.

Specifications from SA to SH are
considered obsolete, meaning that you cannot get any official license
from the API. It is meant for 1995 and older engines. As explained
earlier, the higher the letter, the more recent and a higher
specification would supersede the lower ones. API SN to SJ are for the
most recent cars, API SH to SA for the older cars. Few examples to
illustrate what would be the best:

Example 1: Car from 1987 and you only have two available oils, one with
API SH, the other one with SL. If you read the table properly, the car
needs an API SF. In theory, both SH and SL could be used. As also
explained earlier, more modern oils are not necessarily adapted for
older engines. Therefore, the oil with SH level would be more adapted.
- Example 2: Car from 2003 and you
have different oils available: API SJ, SM or SN. In this case, you need
API SL, so an API SJ, lower, cannot be good. SM and SN supersedes SL so
both oils can be used.

Switch to zic x7000 10w40 its api sL and also has good engine cleaning action..plus fully synthetic
I have been using in my cultus for last 45k...

SN oil is not for flat tappet camshaft. It has low zddp content. SL is last resort.

For brothers recommending latest API SN for Cultus, I would like to add that technically, it may be right, however, Old PKDM Cultus and Old 1000 cc PKDM Alto may not require latest AP SN oil. They have engines based on old tech. etc., so API SN might bring harm than goodness.

Some years ago, I once recommended API SN for Cultus / Alto, and a learned, Senior member guided that it may not be suitable for old Cultus / Alto, and API SN may not be recommended for them, and he was right!

Better to play safe, and jo gari jiss oil p sai chall rai, I believe that engine oil grade / viscosity along with API rating may be continued, especially for old cars, old models, etc.

Max. brand may be switched. Any added adventure may bring harm, than goodness.

Yes. I do not know what is the science / philosophy behind not using API SN in old Cultus / Alto (although it feels appealing to use latest API SN), but if its not right, then better to avoid.

API SJ/SL has more zddp to protect your flat tapper cam. Google it my freind.cheers
