My Cultus 2008 has unsatisfactory AC blower performance.
I had the AC fully serviced at the start of this summer.
As a DIY enthusiast, I recently removed the blower box and serviced the blower myself.
I opened the top of the blower, added lubrication (now the blower spins freely without any disturbance), and cleaned the motor with WD-40, as it had a slight carbon buildup.
But the problem remains: the air is cold, but it doesn’t hit your face. You can feel the coolness, but there’s barely any airflow.
One thing I noticed during my DIY blower servicing is that most of the air is being leaked out of the blower intake area. I will attach an image of what I am trying to reference here, rather than going into the cooler box where the AC coil is located.
So while the blower seems to generate enough pressure, a lot of it is leaking out from the top, right where it should be drawing air in.
Another issue is uneven airflow from the vents:
- Passenger side duct: strongest airflow
- Middle passenger duct: slightly less
- Middle driver duct: even less
- Driver side duct (far right): almost no airflow
What can be done to address the minor issues I am facing?
Another question on the topic.
Can I DIY the cooler box without losing refrigerant gas? Or am I at the mercy of the “ustaads” who say the entire dashboard needs to be opened and quote 7,000–8,000 PKR for labor? I’m in Islamabad.
