Hey guys hope you are fine during the pandemic. I'm planning to do a complete engine overhaul after this virus goes away. I have owned this car for about 2 years now. It does not have a t-stat and when I bought it, it was running on direct fan. I used to put it on auto in winters and direct in summers. It reduces 1 liter of oil after 1500 kilometers so i have to keep topping up. So about a month ago the engine got heated up and blew the head gasket. Towed it to my mechanic and he told me the head was too far gone. Since the head was previously shaved too much which means it got heated up quite a few times. Also I could see main block also reached its limit. One piston was .75 or .50 i cant remember exactly. Middle one was also loose I could feel it move back n forth with my finger. Third one was alright don't remember what number was that on. So he told me to put a double gasket as it was there before, run it for a few months, save some money, come back n do a overhaul. I went out to market look for an assembly and its quite expensive. In Rawalpindi Mithu ahata they were askin 50-60 K for a Jap assembly. Came back sad and told him to go ahead with double gasket. So far its fine with the direct fan except for the oil reduction and bubbles in radiator and little bit water reduction but i can't rely on this car for a long road trip to my hometown.
Also the mechanic was telling me something about crank noise. Which I'm not sure about what noise he was talking about. I never noticed any noise may be you guys can help me figure out what noise he was talking about. I'm sure it will be there since the engine is running cold. I wanted to do an assembly change that would be heavy on my pocket and the con is resale! It wont give me back what I have invested in it. But there is a so called expert jan'ne wala uncle and he got me convinced with an overhaul since he kept a cultus and he knows mechanics and kharadias and he told me it will be around 20K im not sure whats his plan of overhauling but i told him the condition of engine.
So my overhaul plan is to
1. Put cylinder glass/sleeving and go for standard 0/0 OR I could go for 1.0
2. Do valve jobs if needed
3. Replace crank if needed or sleeve it too
4. Replace head or weld it I'm not sure
I need some expert opinions about this engine job. Shall I go for the overhaul? Or a new assembly is the only solution?
