Cultus identifying battery cable polarity

Ok so i have a small problem with my cultus carby 2004 model . I removed the car battery and now I have to put it back into the car. The problem is that I can't tell which cable is positive and which is negative. I understand that there are two conventions

• red = positive

• black = negative

• positive cable is not grounded. positive cable usually has a rubber cover on the portion that connects to the battery terminals.

• negative cable is grounded

Problem is that I have two cables like these in the car:

• red-black cable (two colors) that is grounded to the frame

• black only cable (with rubber cover on the terminal portion) that is connected to the fuse box.

So is the red-black cable positive or the black only cable positive?

I understand that some cars can be positive grounded. Is that the case with this cultus 2004 model?

Also is it normal for it there to be sparks when you connect the cables?

in your case black only (the one connected to the fuse box) cable connects to the +ve of the battery and the grounded wire goes to negative terminal of battery.

cultus has -ve ground wiring.

You are absolutely right. Thanks for replying. I looked up the suzuki cultus manual and it confirms what you have written (i probably should have done that before making this thread ).

I think it's very wrong that they put a red coloured wire for the negative cable and black one for the positive. It's the exact opposite of convention.
