I need some guidance about replacing the engine mounts on my cultus VXRI 2008 model. On hard acceleration the engine vibrates a lot and sometime there is even a metal on metal contact sound from engine compartment. Should I purchase new mounts from Suzuki authorized dealers or those from local shops will also work?
i think the issue is not the engine mounts, rather some metal to metal contact. I would advise that you get the car checked for any alteration in the engine bay or exhaust system
Engine bay inspection is necessary before buying the engine / transmission mounts
yes, at this age, rubber does start to become brittle but not this bad at all.
Yes I think I'll have the engine bay inspected first. From the top of the engine bay, I didn't notice anything out of place. I think I'll have to have it inspected from underneath.Just out of curiosity, how long should the factory engine mounts last?
they degrade over the years, but i have one ten year old cultus and a 20+ year old margalla, both are on genuine mounts. no issue like yours.
Even I'm a little confused because when viewing the engine with bonnet open, it doesn't shake much or move much even under strain like trying to move the car with handbrake engaged. But while driving there is too much vibration especially when accelerating.
Just an update on the issue. I got the car inspected from mechanic and he mentioned that possibly the inner CV joints of the axles are bad because the engine starts shuddering under hard acceleration.Has anyone experience similar issue due to bad inner CV joints? I know the last owner told me they were repaired so it could be the cause. Also should I get new or kabli inner CV joints New are only available with axle and are Chinese quality and they are expensive
buy NKN brand joints, those will be fine.
Yes bad cv joints can do this. also get the axle rod checked, maybe the rods got damaged and the previous owner got them welded...
I couldn't find NKN brand in Islamabad Rawalpindi. I have installed both inner and outer chinese brand CV joints. But I did use Liquimoly MoS2 grease specifically for CV joints. There is no more vibration upon accelerating hard, let's see how long these joints will last
they will last good enough, as long as you take care of torn boots asap.
You did the important thing, i.e getting the right grease
