CVT vs Prosmatec Transmission

I havent seen any discussion on this , and purpose is not to compare Honda vs Toyota , rather just the transmission technology.

Could someone post a review on this , what are the pros and cons of CVT and of Prosmatec transmission technology.

Only thing i know from experience is that CVT has less jerk when switching between gears , and may be better fuel economy.

And also is Honda Planning to replace prosmatec technology with some other or not? as CVT feels more advance than prosmatec.

CVT more responsive, give better milage but more sensitive and delicate as compare to Prosmatic. In CVT no gear shifting involved whereas prosmated involves this shifting.

i have heared CVT trans is not compatible with CNG, why?

RPM fluctuation hurts CVT and in case of CNG its hard to avoid this fluctuation, thats why CNG is not recommended for CVT.

Thanks for your feedback , so all in all Honda needs to do some reasearch on tranny and come up with a new one pretty soon

honda did that way back in 2004...this idsi had cvt system and it was named as vario
the 1.5l in facelift version also had 7speed close ratio cvt system.which was called steermatic
toyota hasnt introduced cvt yet and the current model has super ect which has 4 gears and technology which is somewhat same than of prosmatec (prosmatec cars have 5 fwd gears), i am particulatly talking of pkdm cars.
super ect launched in 2013 and prosmatec was launched way back in 2001 civic,both have same features its just the name difference.
we can comment alot on the features of cvt and prosmatec but cant compare since they both belong to different categories

CVT has proven to be somewhat of a failure in PK since we lack the technical resource for such matter (repairs and maintenance). i.e. why even a conventional a/t is still considered a taboo. Prosmatec somewhat sustains due to the toughened mechanism as compared to the CVT.

Toyota and Honda both are very technologically advanced companies used to take part in the international motor sports (Honda made engines for Mclaren M4/4 f1 back in 90s and toyota's GT-one raced in the LeMans) and they build high quality vehicles. It is just due to the above facts that companieslike Suzuki and Toyota do not launch modern technologies in Pakistan where similar cars are available with all such amenities outside pakistan.

CVT has a stainless steel very fine belt which moves the whole system. On cng, the belt gets loosse at various points due to less power and more drag ........... due to lossening it starts slipping and jerking and all the problems related to the famous city vario. Since then, honda has discontinued the use of cvt, atleast in pakistan. City new trim isn't CVT as per my knowldege. I owned a vario and no doubt there are absolutely no jerks or feeling of gear change unless you keep an eye on the rpm meter. The new city prosmatic doesnt give that continioys and comfortable feeling.

In old times there were rear wheel driven vehicles, these were replaced by front wheel driven vehicles. Reason being to make car light for better fuel economy. Sooner or later, CVT will be the in thing. Again for similar reson. It is cheap to manufacture and gives better fuel economy. So everything else be damned, whether anyone likes it or not.

Yes its a belt driven on cones. Imo i like prosmatec because of the control on how gears shift. Cvt does not waste power between shifts so it is fuel friendly

CVT is for economy and it gives jerk free acceleration and its opposite for auto.

Need feedback
1. Have just purchased Honda BRV S and felt that its gear box produces too much heat inside cabin whereas my city Prosmatic never did so. Is it common for CVT or for BRV?

1. Another issue was downhill drive. At "L" it crossed 50 without break but in Prosmatic it never crossed 25 without break even on roads like babusar to Chills. Any tip how to manage it as continuous use of brakes is never advisable.
