Car: Civic 99 VTi Oriel (PK6)
Transmission: factory AT
Engine: D15B 3-Stage
ECU: P2J-J61 (originally meant for a CVT/MMT)
Converted (rewired) to OBD2a.
Problem 1: the IACV. cant seem to get it to work. have tried 7-8 of them.
Problem 2: The P2J ecu is messing up, car runs like its towing another behind it (specially with the AC on). Current codes displayed are 9 and 14.
There are currently 2 solutions presented to me...
(1) change the ecu to P2J-J62, or
(2) change the ecu to the OBD1 P08 (P08-007, P08-008, P08-009)
I read a post on a honda forum that the P08 can be made to work with dual VTEC by editing IAB values using Crome.
- Does (2) sound like a legitimate solution?
- What base map will be used in this scenario (P2J or P08)?
- Are there any other critical elements that I need to consider before going for this setup
the cyp sensor is inside the dizzy
what iacv are you using? 2wire? 3wire? your problem sounds like wiring issue
yes you can use obd1 p08 chipped ecu on your d15b dual vtec you have to do the following things to make it work:
*buy/make obd2-obd1 conversion harness
*obd1 low-ohm 240cc d15b/d16z6 injectors/resistorbox, (92-95)
*obd1 distributor
*obd1 vtec ecu chippable
*2wire iacv/obd1 iacv plug
*obd1 alternator/alternator plug
*you need to either bypass the VTPS switch in your new obd1 ecu/or you can use crome to eliminate VTPS
now the crome part:
crome does not have a rom/code for dual vtec - as far as the iabs are concerned if you want your 1st vtec to work as per iab activation you'll have to alter the wiring and make a pinoout for the iab from the ecu (a-17/a-19) depending on the ecu being used to the 1st vtec solenoid(12valve mode) or you can also use a p72 ecu that already has the iab support
but after all this you'll only be able to switch to 1st and 2nd vtec mode although you can't tune your maps both first and 2nd vtec will run on the 16valve/vtec maps
meaning even running in the 12valve mode(lean burn) your ecu will still through fuel as per 16valve
either do the above - or just get a p2j ecu and call it a day! thankhyou
