if your ECU has registered an O2 sensor code - it will not allow the VTEC cams to engage. For it to allow VTEC mode to engage certain parameters should be satisfied they are.

1 no fault code in the ECM
2 vehicle speed above 40 km/h
3 engine temperature above 78 degree centigrade
4 engine speed above 4000 rpm
5 VTEC oil pressure sender tripped

if any of these parameters are missing you will not have VTEC engage.

@poster yar to me it seems there's nthng wrong with v.tec(if it wux ok before nd used to kick in) buh if thrz any chek light display then it might be a cause but i think there's smthing wrong with the timing from the timing belt,get tht chekd.

i have recently installed a D15b Dual Vtec engine.. my engine was running just fine and performing well but a couple of days ago when i launched it from a stand still position, in the first gear it took a hiccup (jhatka) and the acceleration got slow, and it seemed to me that the Vtecs have stopped working, the acceleration is very slow now in all the gears, Plus the biggest difference which i noticed now is that the RPM goes all the way to 8500 and then cutts off whcih is not normal. before this the engine was Cutting off at 7400rpm which is normal.

this is the problem which i am experiencing, anyone who knows a bit about D15b dual Vtec can help me out, the engine is not over heating or doing any missing, running fine but acceleration is very slow and cutting of at 8500 with no Vtecs (i am not sure about the vtecs but i cnt hear the vtec kick now)

one of my friend has the same engine and i used his ECU but the car is giving same problem, so it means the ecu is fine there is some other problem.

help required.....

Dear Brother if I reffer to the the higlighted text in your original question, how can you say that the VTEC solenoids are not working. Have you checked the solenoids

you can easily check their continuity with a multimeter. Also apply 12 volts from your car battery to each solenoid and try to hear the typical tick sound. If they are fine then check the wiring harness from the solenoid end to the ECU end, trace back the wires of each solenoid from end to end and check thier continuity as well.
ECU takes into account of engine oil pressure, engine temperature, vehicle speed, engine speed and throttle position for changing cam profiles/12 to 16 valves operation. So the next possibility could be the required oil pressure or any one of the above mentioned prerequisites.

14 is IAC and 20 is load detector check them out

Code 20: ELD is obvious coz local market fuse box aren't equipped with ELD. You should get a new fusebox with ELD or get it bypassed by your wiring bloke.

Code 14: IACV... hmmm... but IAC failure does not lead to this kind of problem. Your problem is somewhere else. But get IACV sorted out for good measure anyway.

AND... VTEC failure should leave your into 'limp mode'... but on the contrary its revving upto 8000s.
Have you checked your TPS and distributor wiring? You need to collaborate your TPS with your throttle blade.
I'm not sure but I think if your TPS has been retarded it'd fail to read correct throttle position and lead to sluggishness and late rpms cutoff.

in limp mode he shoudlnt be revving 8k he should be somewher 3k and i know the codes he mentioned dont have anythng to do with power i just answerd his errors who knows is he really revving 8k or just a rpm malfunction

there is an oil pressure switch on the main oil line of the VTEC solenoid, it cuts ground to verify to the ECU for good oil pressure in the head main gallery.

even with VTEC not engaging - this engine can go to 8000 rpm - but very slowly.
