D16 Distributor works with D15B 3-Stage?

Can the D15B 3-Stage function properly with the distributor from paki D16 or does it have its own distributor?

d15b has got its own distributor but the d16 distributor also works fine with d15b

Technically, it should work fine with the D15B. But do confirm it

if the distributor aligns itself to cyl 1 TDC when the engine comes to TDC, and you match the wiring then it will work.

my honda's D16 head was faced to many times. had to swap, and i got D15b head from the second hand.

when we tried to fit the D16 distributor on the D15 Head, one screw was not in line(was not a major issue), real problem was that, even after setting the distributor to full advance
the timing was not set or at the place it should have been

thats why I wrote if the distributor TDC matches with engine TDC only then would it work - or it wont.

so i should change the distributor... its a heck load easier than struggling with TDC

when replacing the distro - rotate engine to TDC, remove old distro, take new distro check its alignment at the rear engagement dogs - it should have a line mark on the round part of the key to align to cyl 1 TDC, it should match the keyway in the cam and the mounting ears aligning to the screw holes on the head. - if its not matching - the distro wont work.

Pretty much all Honda D series parts are interchangeable. Distributor itself does work, but it deponds upon what ECU/OBD you're running. Grips are different for different OBDs. Yes, you can convert them, but I dont think conversion harness is avaliable, so you're better off getting the right dizzy for 2.5K rupees.

Local distributor is OBD2b, so it'd hook up with OBD2b wiring + P2J-J11 ECU for you 3 stage vtec motor. Most 3 stage motor come with OBD2a ECU; P2J-J62 etc and for that you have to get the wiring converted, or changed altogether, for good measure.

First step is to identify your ECU. Are you running local ECU or the one that came with the motor? Can you post the code here?

i m running the local ecu not the one that came with the engine. the new guy i m going to (who has done swaps before) said it didnt matter if i used p2j-j11 or p2j-j62 with the d15b 3-stage and local PKDM auto transmission. I read plenty of places that the only way this is possible is to trick the ecu into thinking a manual or cvt is connected. what implications would this have?

i think the mech plans to convert to OBD2a, thus the need to change the distro. and then he's charging about 6k to change the wiring.

ecu for 2.5k?? where the heck do you get your ecus from? i cannot find anything less than 7K here.

And, I don't think you'd be able to run 4 speed auto with CVT ECU, how'd your mechanic do that? Its better to stick to your stock ECU and let the lean burn go, or get a CVT tranny, or convert to manual for good measure.

its the mechanic who insists on the change. he's done it "successfully" before. i've seen 2 civic 99 automatics (mechanical auto transmissions) worked on by him yielding 11kms to the liter... whereas, i m getting 7km/L.

I dont want to convert to manual. I was thinking about CVT but i was warned against it.

btw... i've seen someone working 2 ecus simultaneously... one for the trans and the other for the rest... he spliced up the wiring. i m sure our ppl cant do that.

I don't know about multiple ECUs, but that sounds fairly complex. Wouldn't it be better to get CVT anyway. Yes it probably sucks, but so does SOHC lean burn motor to be bitterly honest.

bottom-line seems to be that i have to change my PKDM default ECU to something from the P2J line-up... i will try looking for the J63. avoiding an obd conversion seems like a nice idea, specially since conversion harnesses arent available here.

multiple ECUs is definitely complex. wouldnt want to get into it unless i have a couple of spare ecus lying around to experiment with.

being a total noob, the searching yielded only more confusion. the only thing that keeps me searching is the 2 guys here on PW who have had this done (successfully) on their rides.
