Dear Friends,
A few days ago I sought advice on buying a new Daewoo and a couple of days back I bought it. I'll try to upload pictures later.
Unfortunately I made some mistakes and wanted to reiterate some one's advice that you must get the car checked by a mechanic. Even educated sitting Govt. officers cannot be trusted. He told me he gets car serviced from Daewoo mechanics but it really doesn't appear that way.
Since buying it two days ago, I've spent around 10K on fixing things which the last owner should had done, mainly to keep the car safe. I went to Tahir G-8, Islamabad. The major ones include wheel bearings (a connecting rod was surprisingly welded and the mechanic had to bang a lot to remove old welded rivets and add new ones), new brake servo, messed up electrical connections and replacement of engine foundation (which was almost at breaking point and Tahir said the engine could fall down anytime).
But the major thing I wanted to get your advice on is the engine air filter. When we opened it we saw the filter inside wasn't Daewoo's, but of some other car. Although Tahir (technician) replaced it and said that engine should be okay but this has me extremely worried. Imagine for how long the car was driven on that phony filter and the dust that could've gone in? What kind and level of engine damage can I expect? What are my options? I don't want to take chances now on safety. Please advise.
By the way, even though my experience has been painfully bitter but I still stand by my decision to go for a Daewoo. I think my thinking was correct, just that good thinking should be coupled with precaution.
