English racing driver Dan Wheldon was killed in a massive crash at the Las Vegas 300 IndyCar series finale on Sunday. Wheldon, 33, winner of the famed Indianapolis 500 in May, died from injuries he received after his car was sent airborne over another car and clipped the catch fencing during the 15-car wreck

All my condolences with his family especially his 2 very young sons and wife, also to his team and other family members.

I was hoping he could make history by winning the race starting last and gets the prize money that IRL announced for any wild card driver who wins the season finale.

It was in Indy Racing League and not in F1, plus it was an oval race. But I agree safety enhancements are necessary in F1 too.

This is the last race of this generation of Indy Cars, from next season they are bringing news types of cars which have rear wheel protection so that wheel to wheel contact that results in cars getting airborne will be minimized.
