Why, Blue or Green Color ? (Technical Report):
A green or blue color is generally a result of copper in water. Copper is regulated in
drinking water by the EPA at 1.3 PPM. This is at a low enough concentration that the
copper cannot be tasted (the taste threshold is around 5 PPM). Copper can become a
problem if it is higher than 30 PPM in drinking water. Effects at this dose are vomiting,
diarrhea, and general gastrointestinal distress.
Geologically the water stream is flowing in the outcrops of the Nagri Formation (Upper
Siwaliks) of Pliocene Age. Nagri Formation is primarily composed of greenish-grey
sandstone, it is massive and coarse grained with thin beds of light brown sandstone.
One of the very distinguished feature of Nagri Formation is salt & pepper texture.
• Geochemical Map of Pakistan, JV of GSP-CGS, 2016 also shows high Copper
concentration in this area.
Copper concentration in the said Formation is also reported in the Shinghar
Range(about 70 kms west of said area)Carnotite occurs with tyuyamunite and other
vanadium and copper minerals also reported.
