the sump on it is very tall - on W210 the subframe is bolted rather than welded on, but the steering rack is also bolted to it
When doing a sump gasket change on this - the engine is lifted up and the subframe dropped a bit too - Its easy.
If you think this is abnormal, please check a BMW 6 cyl engine, the sump cannot be removed unless you drop the front subframe 10 inches and the engine supported with a bar above.
If you think that is collosally stupid, google the words "audi service position" - and think of it when you have to change a thermostat or alternator on it..
BUT....
he already has siezed the engine according to his posts. Its in his best interest to pull the engine, Bearings can be checked even without opening the engine - install a pressure gauge to the test port and start it up. If the pressure drops rapidly when the oil gets hot - Its toast.
Glitter will also be found everywhere in the oil. - Pull out the engine, its a piece of cake on this, you dont even need to remove the bonnet on a mercedes, the radiator and fan is literally clipped on the car, the airduct work is also clipped on. They are pulled in mere seconds.
p.s. If this was a W124 (older model) - its a world of hurt as the front frame which holds the mounts is welded to the car (not bolted like the W210) - YEAH.. It gets very interesting if you dont have a proper engine support bar.
