Defender VS Land Cruiser

Defender and LC are two very different vehicles, for traveling with family on roads there is no match for a LC even 2000 model, but the defender is better than LC only in very extreme off road conditions i.e. mud, sand, water crossings. In your case I would suggest LC for your family traveling comfort as I think you will not be going through extreme off roading.

For comfort the defender is like a shed, metal everything comfort = none, for downright BRUTE FORCE off roading - nothing like a defender. BUT (this is the most important) to own a LR defender you need to own a basic maintenance toolkit and know how the thing works. No matter if you dont repair it but that way you will know its capabilities and limits of operation. And being permanent 4WD with difflocks on call - it will climb like a spider, like a mercedes Gwagen does.

Ive took a discovery far and wide, I could get to places in that truck where Land cruisers/Safaris would be stuck like ships ashore. But bear in mind that you will get stuck in the most remotest of places.

and to top the cake - the 300TDI is a mighty workhorse of an engine, very basic and very very rugged - and you will love the mountain of torque it shoves out when the turbo spools up.

Now that you have asked this question you should get an LC... cuz people who want a defender; will get a Defender they don't ask questions they are clear in their head!

And practically speaking, sentiments apart... Yes LC in Pakistan would be a better decision in terms of spares availability, technical know how among road side Mechanics, etc. And a well kept 2000 year LC should be fine don't worry about spending time and money in work shops; Japanese reliability is unquestionable but that doesn't make them a better car. A new Defender would still take you to the workshop every now and then since the Pakistani assembled Defenders have serious quality and workmanship issues and yeah parts from the dealer will literally kill you!

A stock Defender is 10x more capable than a stock LC any time! But you don't need that capability to go anywhere in Pakistan, I have been to the North quite a bit we don't have the conditions that would require tanks! Any decent 4x4 makes it with ease. So LC will have no issues whatsoever. And as far as the power is concerned Defender packs some serious Torx and it will never run out of power no matter the conditions... I don't know what engine in the LC you are interested in, I would have done a comparison for you!

ya u got my point. But still people say that pak assembled Defender would have mantainance issues. Comments r 50/50

If you base your decision on what Accord 7362 says, you will regret it!
I'm not saying don't buy a Defender... buy one but then don't expect it to be comfortable and don't expect the parts to be available other than from probably 10 shops in the whole country and be prepared to pay a handsome amount of money for them!

Xulfiqar and I know each other.. and I agree on everything he has said. I bought mine brand new in 2002 and I still have it; I spend a lot of money on it from time to time and I mostly service it myself as I am an advanced DIYer. You will only like a Defender if you are a propa motorhead!

To make the decision simpler, you should take a test drive in the Defender.

You'll either realize that its just not for you, or you'll feel that this could be the start of a long relationship. Don't expect love at first drive though, because I don't think that can really happen given the nature of the car, one has to grow into it!

BTW no need of driving the LandCruiser, just drive a Corolla and imagine it being raised a bit and heavier a lot Nothing exciting, but like a very reliable employee on a low salary!

No intentions of distracting from the original question of thread. I note mention of almost 3 lacs on maintainace of current vehicle. So obviously money is of some concern here, anyway long story short, buy a LC and in three years you will be able to sell it in Pak for still more than 3 million! Buy a Landy and in three years you will be lucky to get 2-2.5million back!

And don't forget any machine is only as capable as the man driving it!

I m a big fan of the giant land cruiser but only issue here is maintanance of old and new jeep
