his troops took the bug in the sahara, if it can take an african desert it can surely take this. top gear once did a program of them going through Botswana, the lot in an old Opel, an Alfa Romeo and a 123 mercedes followed by a bug.

the opel remained in original shape along with the bug, but the romeo and mercedes were stripped to bare bones to avoid them sinking in the sand.

What an awesome road trip! I am so envious of you guys! And the pictures and narration are really too good! Hilarious and informative! I spent a good one hour reading your thread and oogling at the photos. Simply terrific! And you guys are really so organized. Tents, inverters, mosquito mats?!! I doubt I could come up to 50% of your abilities. Eagerly waiting for the remaining portion of the trip..if there is!

@ murtaza and reezvan...this bug is a very interesting bug indeed... im glad u mentioned that..now i can finally tok abt it

The bug is a 1969 economy...which means...she has a 1200cc engine and no fuel gauge along with absence of pop out windows in the back, lack of hood chrome...a bland boring steering and no dash grab handle...

The interesting bits tho are.. while it is a 1969...the bug being an economy, got many parts from the older model...it was in those days...a late upgrade to the new look...she being an economy stayed old in some areas...same concept as and Xli and a Gli...actually not...BAAAAD example...same thing as a maybach 57 and a maybach 63...u pay less u get less:P:P

soo...this bug...got a half hearted upgrade...while she ran newer fenders up front with the vertical lights..the ones at the rear stayed same as the older model with smaller lights..the bumper was the same story...while it got "blade" bumpers in it by default...u could spec her up at the factory to get over riders...the europa was no introduced in the "lower" model...bumpers had another interesting thing...while the europa has its mounts thru the fenders, she has mounts going in thru the front apron...the overriders are however in the fenders:P...she has a newer fender...but the economy carried with the horn grill:P...she also has a fuel filler on the outside just to add confusion when all else starts to make sense the 1200 also ran the small turn signals up front well into 72 if im not wrong...(not sure if its 72 or 73...sry)...she had the older model speedo* and...there was a dynamo in the back and overall, quite a few confused and interesting things:P shes been giving me hell figuring out what part to buy for 74 and what for 67 so as to fit on her right...The steering wheel however...is something iv upgraded...or dwngraded cuz i LOVE this one...and hey...in the confusion...who will question if it is or isnt right:P...so there u have it...yes the steering and the paint scheme is not to spec..neither is the hood chrome strip...but other than that...what u pointed out actually is!!! cool no??

@murtaza..no they dont!!! in my opinion..the older model blades with the inverted smaller bumper guards were the real deal...sigh...
@nmshaikh...no we decided to make do with a jerry can of water there...what u havent seen deployed in any of the pics tho...is the dome tent we had for out toilet:P it was a "twist and pack" style tent that deployed on its own once out of the cover...pop it right up..get the business done on the roadside and head on forward:P...see the BIG red disc like structure at the base of the roof rack...im sure u can in some of the pics...THAT is the toilet tent..it had no floor obviously:P

@ mehran...well to tell the truth..we were prepared to camp on the road side in a deserted stretch should she decide to quit on us..so we were carrying a lot...in my view a bit too much...she obviously didnt quit tho... and yess...babusar is yet to come...im just letting the interest build...then il post that...

@reezvan...how is that question quick...if u ask me...it was very long and hence a rather slow one...that argument is irrelevant tho...the rack was a beetle rack definitely...im sure of that...it fit perfect and had all the right bits and pieces...it had these 4 joints ball joint things at each foot to adjust to the cars rof angle..its also sloped to match the bugs roof perfectly both in terms of length and width...what make tho? i kno not...i borrowd it from some one who further borrowed it from some one...and i dint see the brand...as for the replica...i need one as i do at the decklid...if some one else is interested, we can make 3-4 and cut the costs maybe?? what say u??
