Destiny 2013-Dirr Gali trek, Jandri (Dir) to Utror (Kalam)

Just came back from a rapid fire type trek of 5 days.
this time we explored a new trek not so famous amongst many of us i.e. from jandri to utror.

our route was

Day 1. Islamabad to dir to thal to kumrat valley... night camp (by road and jeep)

Day 2. Kumrat valley to thal to jandari ... night Raja Taj Muhammad hujra (jeep)

Day 3. Jandari to jahaz banda (5 hr trek) after lunch rush towards katora lake... back due to rain from jahaz dand lower smaller lake (3 hr round trek)... night (rest house of taj mohamad (chamrieen cottage) at jahaz banda)

Day 4. Trek towards Dirr Gali (4 hr straight 75 degree climb.. Ktura lake visible from top) descend other side initially gradually and than steep descent .. (ismiss lake visible from there.) 6 hours trek to reach kalam banda... total trek 10 hrs as our guide missed route.

Day 5. Trek from Kalam Banda besides kondol lake (kondol lake on other side of mountain) to utror (4 -5 hr trek) descend only.... reach utror.. jeep up to mingora.. and mingora to islamabad at night 2 o clock.............

jiss din nikley hian uss din ki subah tak mujhey nahi pata tha keh main ja sakta hun ya nahi.... ask hassan or mudassir bawa ji.. naraz na hona ji.... and new route explore hi issi wajah sey hua coz we dont have any sort of plan.. some one told us abt it and we opt to check it if it actually is or not....

on descending from Dirr Gali,,, on opposite side of utror there were a series of small lakes i dont know if these were pari lakes or not.... i dont know them....

Mistakes we did and must not be repeated...

1. dont carry your own luggage,, hire more porters.... donkey dont work on descend. if you are not supper fit... we had to carry coz we got only two porters/ guide from jandari.... and one of them never visited this region, other was revisiting this after 8 years according to him.. that proved wrong when we reach other side .. this was his first time as well,, they just asked some one route and get along with us...

2. we did it in 3 days... please make it 4 days to enjoy and explore surroundings as well. camp at dirr gali base camp in spite of staying at chimreen cottage. from there u can save energy of climbing for next tough day. and camp at other side base camp of dirr gali.. do not rush straight to kalam banda....(dirr pronounces in urdu as... daal zeer rey)

3. Ask for nawab and ismael for this trek,, they were with us,, and now know this route.. according to locals, we were first trekkers who did this trek. even locals donot do this.

4. Use Trekking sandals while descending,, that will save your fingers and ease your feet tremendously from kalam banda to utror trek.

5. if u are not trekker, than u can jeep up from thal to utror village in a couple of hours as well.. road is open now.

Day 1.

Reached Dir district bus station at morning 8 o clock, hired a flat car of said ali jan and he was a police walla,, he aggreed to take us upto thall village. his station was kalkot where he has to report near thal town.

from thal, we got a jeep that take us deep in kumraat valley stayed night with us... end of day 1.

stations between dir and thal to kumraat valley

1. sharmaai (u can have tea and snacks here pakoras are tasty)
2. saanoi
3. shirngal (there is a university in a classic landscape,, wide valley river flowing and beautiful buildings)
4. paatrak (beautiful village educated people, picturesque land scapes of river, valley and mountains)
5. kalkot (here we met SHO waris who helped us alot and due to him we were given huge protocol as he by himself arranged a jeep that stayed with us for night in deep kumraat valley)
6. thal (last town where u can have food purchase stuff for your next desitinations. though, if u want to buy a chicken,, u will be asked to carry it alive as they dont know how to ZIBAH ... so u are to do it by urself... or find a man who can do so. isnt it amazing)
7. kumraat rest house..(amazingly situated govt. rest house in start of kumrat valley..very beautiful.)
8. Kumraat water fall. (very huge water fall )
9. Kala chashma (a water spring in open valley grassy meadows besides junggles and river full of trout flowing in between)
10. jeep road ends... dont know what is that place but there we pitched our tent.
