I've told you already, all trannies lose power, whether auto or manual. If CVTs lose 18%, then manuals also lose around 10-15%, you can look that up as well.

The 0-100 time is more subject to launching the car, you can clutch-dump a manual at 5000 rpm but you can't do that with a CVT. If you actually want to look at the power being put down, you should compare in-gear acceleration, or rolling acceleration- such as from 60-100 kph. I suspect it will be almost the same(within 5-10%)

If we take the losses of a manual car as zero and then understand that all extra losses other than the manual car loss to be an addition then you can say that CVT eats up from 15 to 18%.

Drive train losses are only 1.5 to 2 percentage for manual . you can check this point in the net

I have just bought a City 1.2 cvt. 5 days back and I had trouble climbing up the ramp in Emporium Mall lahore in D even though I had floored it. Then on the next ramp I changed to first S but nothing and then I changed to L and then it felt okay.

But what will happen when I will visit Murree with my family of 5 persons.

City was purchased to provide a better car instead of wagonr for local running. CVT because I have slipped disk and have leg problem.

Tell me am I driving wrongly or correctly ? This is my first cvt experience

Please don’t post random websites, if you actually have a Dyno run showcasing the difference between a manual and an auto then we’ll talk. Anecdotal information is useless as well.
And if you actually read the article, you’ll see that the only way an MT loses 2% power is when it’s in direct drive(I.e. 3rd or 4th gear); and even then, the clutch will still lose an additional 5-7% power.
My friend literally runs a Dyno shop in the US, and I’ve never heard him say that manuals lose 2% and autos 15% power. Both are in the range of 10-20%; yes manuals are a bit better than avg autos, but not better than DCTs. In fact, I’ll ask him to if he has graphs of similar cars(like 10th gen civic) in both auto and manual, and then we’ll hopefully put this delusion of yours to rest.

If they don’t show any Dyno runs or data to support their claims, then it might as well be written by a high schooler. Besides, I never trust such blog-sites or magazines; much better to actually read scientific papers published on the subject. If you have any of those, please be my guest and post them here.

I say delusional because what you’re saying doesn’t make any sense. I don’t know what’s wrong with your car, but regardless the issue is probably that the 1200cc engine is not specifically made for this size of car. That’s why it feels underpowered. 89 hp means nothing if all that power is produced up top. You need torque for city-driving, and that torque can only be provided by a bigger engine(or by turbocharging).

A manual Corolla doesn’t compare, because like I said, you can clutch-dump it at whatever rpm you like to increase wheel hp/tq. It seems like you aren’t even reading what I’ve written above. Neither have you read the link you posted yourself. Context is important, they specifically mention that min losses only occur in direct drive(which is not 1st or 2nd gear), which you don’t mention in your post whatsoever.

Whether you trust them or not does not matter. CVT does reduce the hp of the car a lot . How can you explain the 0-100 times of BRV cvt as 14 seconds while manual is 10.5 seconds. A difference of nearly 4 seconds.

if you want to ruin some car then put in cvt. in case while going to hunza or chitral, at some pothole you hit your cvt then say goodbye to half price of your car as cvt cannot be repaired , only automatics can be repaired. cost will be an arm and a leg to boot.

@PuNk if you're interested in 7-seaters, why not look at Oshan X7?

It has a seven seater variant, a surprisingly powerful 1.5 turbo engine that's faster than even Civics and Grandes when it comes to 0-100. A very roomy SUV with a ton of space, as the wheelbase is quite large.

Plus, it's subjective, but Changan seems to be a bigger and more mature group.
