Hello @Xulfiqar Bhai.. I have just bought a 2000 Corolla 2.0D with original 2C.. Engine as per the Last owner is recently Overhauled. there are a couple of concerns though

1. It drank 3 quarters of diesel within 250kms (engine is still in running phase though after overhaul but the last owner insisted that he was getting 15,16 kmpl average.

2. RMP was around 1500 which I told my mechanic to reduce....now the problem is...whole body starts vibrating badly when I start the ride in morning...n even after driving it around...doesnt make much difference despite of the fact that rpm is still around 1100-1200 at idle... Is this because of the engine mountings or could be something else?

3. When I floor the ride a little it gives black smoke. with recently overhauled engine..it should not be the case..right ? ..but I ll wait for oil change to further assess this..

4. The mechanic who overhauled the engine did direct connections to the fan. Even though I have had it automatic again..but its taking hell lot of time to take temprature to middle...I mean like an hour or so of continuous driving...is this because of faulty Thermostat ?

Please advice.. I have never kept a diesel ride before and I am a complete noob when it comes to all these technical terminologies, so all of this is concerning me a lot.. Also the fact that people keep threatening me that now that you have bought a diesel You ll know what you have done to urself etc....

Thanks for ur reply brother...actually the problem was faulty CSD...it was stuck...causing hell lot of engine noise....today i have left my ride at workshop to get that done....hopefully the sound ll get better...Also, i guess the mechanic who overhauled the engine wasn't very good....i am sorting the ride out slowly n gradually with my mechanic n hopefully will end up with good Results inshaAllah....as far as black smoke is concerned..a little on hard flooring is ok as per Zulfiqar bhai so that is the least of my concerns for now....a little leakage..very very small...and the sound is the main concern right now. .but i guess after the csd gets fixed it ll come back to its original sweet sound inshaAllah

It has done 1000kms...i meant i floored it after the oil has been changed :)...now as per my mechanic....fan was direct and thermostat was out which is why the ride was not giving any problems...now that we have installed thermostat and csd is still not working...that is the problem because both things work along....as per him after we are done with CSD inshaAllah the ride sound and consumption both with get better and the little vibration that we have even after changing mounts ll be gone too...

your CSD is stuck in advance state, you might need to remove it and clean it out with acid - if its heavily rusted then you may need to replace the plunger assembly on the pump.

before all of this proceeding make sure the pump is timed correctly to the engine - and make sure the nozzles are operating at correct pressure, if the nozzles are not evenly set to open the same pressure the engine will run irregular because the nozzles with low pressure act like advanced timing while the nozzles with high pressure act like retarded timing.

too low nozzle pressure causes incorrect atomisation which leads to very loud diesel knock and can even do severe thermal damage to the engine (melted piston tops)

We have replaced the plunger assembly today and there is a significant difference in engine sound..lot less sound...it was producing a very loud n bad (forgive my total ignorance with engines) tick tick (somewhat like tappets in petrol) sound which is gone after CSD replacement and engine sounds seems somewhat normal now...vibration also has decreased a lot..but some of it is still there at idle which i doubt is because rpm meter is not working correctly and i ll have to get it fixed so we can fix the engine rpm where it should be....i doubt mechanic has checked nozzles or pump timings but judging by engine sound i think pump was timed before installing CSD...i ll double checked anyway...black smoke has also decreased but still there...

Also, @xulfiqar bhai, we filled 4.5 litre oil yesterday...in the morning when i checked oil level on dip stick it showed way above F...which worried me....but when i went to mechanic he showed me the dip stick was showing absolutely fine oil level i-e right at F level....what could be the possible reason for that..the ride btw,was standing on perfectly flat ground in both cases....

if your oil level is above the F mark on completely cold engine then your oil filter is pretty bad quality considering it has a useless antidrain back valve.

thats good, did your mechanic also get the linkages to work - the CSD plunger pushes a lever which advances the cam in the pump and also works a series of levers to increase rpm on cold engine.

That functionality is working, Yes ... However about oil Level. We have changed diesel + oil + Air filter 2 days back......the oil level above F when cold is worrisome for me.... Could there be another reason for that ?... Also, A very strange thing...when i checked the oil in the morning it was dark black on dip stick....but when mechanic showed me the dip stick oil was in its original goldenish color.....

xulfiqar bro I ma buying a daihatsu chardment with 3c turbo swapped I need to do it compression test I called one mechanic and he was doing it by removing sprakplug and putting finger I then told him to get lost my father is recommending me to check compression by placing the hand and exhaust port is it the correct method?????

your mechanic can gauge nearly 400 psi with his finger? is he the hulk? btw how does your diesel have spark plugs, you also cannot check compression from the exhaust port either.

you need a diesel specific compression tester - they either screw into the injector hole or the glow plug hole.

he did't checked it he told me he will check it this way I know 3c compression ration is some near 23:0:1 and he will losse he finger if he does it and I also don't know how to do it would be my first diesel car and he is a petrol engine mechanic

Noted...just checked the oil level while leaving office...ride was standing still for like 9 hours...looked almost fine..just a lil above F...or may be i am over analysing it being new to me....never kept a diesel before n m literally freaking out with any thing that goes wrong

Never thought would have to come back on this thread this soon :p...a little problem ( yet again ) ... today got nozzles serviced and diesel settings made from labortary...engine sound is lovely with very less smoke....now the problem is, mechanic told me to floor the ride real hard and check....i went on a try and noticed temp needle rising...noticeable thing is, it came back to half within 5,6 seconds..i rushed back to mechanic and we went on a try together...floored the ride to full revs with both A.c on n off..nothing....did this for good 4,5 kms...came back....opened hood..engine sound perfect..pipes soft...nothing...closed the hood..went on another try...floored again...after around km's noticed needle rising to almost 75%..but it came back to half in just a matter of seconds..like, less than 10 seconds...mechanic says its either shot wire or faulty gauge because engine sound was perfect..no engine blow...no water pipes abnormalities....as per the mechanic if it was the engine which was heating it would not come back to normal within a matter of seconds..Also, it would blow some pipe for sure so its not the engine..it's either gauge or shot wire........should i go ahead and get both wires and gauge checked @Xulfiqar bhai?

the bold part that I highlighted is your problem, the system is not pressurizing and your thermostat valve is either slow to react or jamming in the open state.

On a hot engine the hose pipes on the engine should be quite hard - there is about 16 psi pressure in the system.
