Hearing Loud sound of tik tik tik from 2c.what is the problem Sir?pick and starting is normal.

try to isolate the sound with a stethescope and see where its actually coming from.

the bold part that I highlighted is your problem, the system is not pressurizing and your thermostat valve is either slow to react or jamming in the open state.

On a hot engine the hose pipes on the engine should be quite hard - there is about 16 psi pressure in the system.

If the thermostat is stuck open it wouldn't take the temp needle to middle n maintain there in the first place, wouldn't it @xulfiqar bhai? ..i had this problem with alto and even in summers with a.c it wont take temp needle to middle because the thermostat was stuck in open state...in current case...our temp needle normally stays in the perfect position (middle)... Also, if it were stuck in closed state it would heat the engine up and as far as i have heard a heated up diesel engine takes its toll when it heats up...in our case needle goes above middle and comes back to normal within seconds...and u keep flooring the ride even after that nothing happens..perfect smooth engine sound and everything...went to mechanic yesterday again..he said it was some electrical fault....showed to the electrician and he said the earth wire was loose...he fixed it and needle hasn't moved an inch above middle since then.... i ll have to keep an eye on that for a couple of days though....

-i am searching for a thermostat valve of corolla 2C engine from a long time but did not find any new or used, gone through plaza, mukka chowk, al asif diesel pathan mechanic market, etc and now i am loosing hope for it, kindly suggest any substitute for it.

-another problem with little background: i just returned from a trip of northern areas in my car, before leaving for the trip i changed all the glow plugs as two were taking more time else everything was perfect, valve clearances set, CSD working, pump timed with dial gauge and worked on by cummins, no issue of hot or cold start... now the problem starts when i was in bhurbhan (freezing temperature), i tried to start my car after giving 4,5 glow as it was very cold but it did not start, it was parked on down slope so i put the car in first gear, brakes off and it starts rolling, i left clutch n engine did started but shut off just as i left accelerator..... again did the same n this time pressed the accelerator for about 15,20 seconds on nearly 2K rpm so that engine does not shuts off n after 15,20 seconds i left accelerator and engine was idling but with severe knocking n missing n lots of white smoke on idling which vanished if accelerated upto 1800-2000rpm.. i let the engine idle n as it got some warmth it normalized and the missing n knocking vanished just after about 5mins of startup in that freezing temperature.

i drove it all the way from bhurban to lahore n then to sadiqabad and then to karachi and kept on facing the same issue on every cold start and still facing it.... before trip it used to start on single self on cold after single glow time but now it takes 7,8 selfs on every cold start with severe knocking n missing n white smoke which vanishes after 1km of drive in karachi, now i want to know whats wrong with the engine ? and what needs to be corrected ? it wasnt like this before facing the freezing temperature.

-on cold start rpm used to be on 1100 and decrease to 800rpm after coming to optimum temperature but now due to missing n knocking rpm on cold is 900-1000. consumption also seems to be increased after this issue which was 16-18 kmpl in city previously.

when your engine was doing this - what engine oil was in the sump and what was the condition of the fuel, I only once experienced a really strange batch of fuel in Pakistan (same murree area in a LR Disco). the fuel was waxy at a paltry -3C, useless fuel IMO, had to cut it with a litre of kerosene.

btw - the thermostat valve is the same as the 4A engine.

when your engine was doing this - what engine oil was in the sump and what was the condition of the fuel, I only once experienced a really strange batch of fuel in Pakistan (same murree area in a LR Disco). the fuel was waxy at a paltry -3C, useless fuel IMO, had to cut it with a litre of kerosene.

btw - the thermostat valve is the same as the 4A engine.

i always poured delo gold but this time first time ever i used this oil in pic, it was suggested by owner of al-hamd autos at mukka chowk and i only agreed because he is a trust worthy person. i felt significant improvement in terms of engine sound, mileage and pick and plan to use this from now on. i don't think oil the problem is due to oil because it worked flawlessly for nearly 2000 kms.

around 20L fuel was filled from rawalpindi from total or shell (dont remember exactly).

n regarding dealerships i went to Toyota Eastern and they did not have it in stock, they said that they can try to arrange only if i pay them in advance Rs. 2700 for thermostat without its seal etc also called Toyota Central from Toyota eastern n they simply said that they don't have it nor they can arrange it. now i will call Toyota South and confirm.

Please dont take word of mouth of such shop owners and always buy a branded oil - the reason I asked about the oil is that a lower quality lube will become glue at lower temperatures and may cause excessive drag whilst starting the engine. The reason to ask about fuel was that - when the engine was faltering was the fuel in perfect liquid state or was it becoming cloudy - I know the cloud point of diesel is pretty low but I once faced a waxed fuel problem which was solved after cutting the fuel with a bit of kerosene.

so what do u say ? shall i switch back to delo gold ? but i dont think the problem will be solved with it because engine started in rawalpindi as well where temperature was also pretty low and now i am in karachi where temperature is normal but cold start issue as mentioned above is still there.

There are 2 types of thermostat can be used in the Toyota 2C engine: one with 82 degree celcius, while other with 88 degree celcius. Which one should be used in Pakistan?

Similarly, what kind of radiator cap should be used with 2C. The one with 1.1 bar/16 psi of pressure OR the one with 0.9 bar/13 psi of pressure?

@xulfiqar bhai i took few thermostat valves from mechanic to install in my car (2C) n found these 3 to be in better condition, i boiled them n citric acid water and all of them r working, they r 78C, 82C and 88C, me n mechanic r not sure which t-stat is of which engine, can u please figure them out ? i think 82C may fit ? if not then i'll visit toyota south to get for 2c.
