question 1.
who in their right minds use carburettor cleaner to clean internal parts of a diesel engine. the carb fumes when ingested into the cylinders can cause a huge deal of problems.
btw - the baffle plates you were supposed to clean are under that metal plate which is riveted to the cover, steam or hot water and an industrial detergent is used to clean those out.
btw - white smoke on a turbodiesel is 90% of the times a bad turbo shooting oil into the exhaust, because an engine consuming oil by this rate means that it will be running away itself.
and when a diesel engine burns "engine oil" the smoke is black/sooty gray as it burns it like fuel - white smoke is low temperature burn which means the turbo is blowing it out the exhaust. The other type of white smoke is unburnt diesel fuel which will smell like a bit sweet.
but that much blowby is an issue, you need to have this inspected - a rebuild of the engine perhaps. - and EGR being blocked was probably due to them being stuck.
