Difference b/w 1KZ &1KZ-TE

I have asked this question in my another thread a week ago but did not receive any response, so i started a fresh thread.

i have selected 1KZ engine for my Jeep, but there is a little confusion about 1KZ & 1KZ-TE.

Which one is better in Performance, fuel efficiency and easy to understand(for mechanic)?

The main difference is that 1KZ-TE has turbo and the 1KZ does not, making the TE version more powerful. Fuel efficiency wise they are both almost the same, but majorly depends on whether you go for manual transmission or automatic and driving style habits.
Mechanic wise, I dont think either would be a problem.
I can tell you one thing from experience though, although these engines have great torque, once they go 'geela' there is no stopping it so be careful with maintenance.

Please do not slap a regular pump and call it a day - get someone to wire up the original 1KZ-TE ECU fully and completely, You will be amazed at how solidly the engine torques up. And the preglow timer and light functions are also controlled by it.

Ive put this engine in a cressida with autobox - and it was really nice to drive, punch it and it torques away like the big sedan was a paper cup.

1KZ-TE ECU is another version?

1KZ-TE = engine
ECU = Engine control unit

Its not a fully mechanical engine as it seems to be - its drive by wire with map, air temperature and coolant temp sensors to optimise power output.

When I saw the shershah people selling 1KZ engines or 2L engines with a fully mechanical pump with no LDA to up fuelling on turbo boost - I felt like kicking their teeth in. When asked about how would it fuel on turbo boost - they say

Turbo ghoom raha hai - hawa maar raha hai - buss, lena hai to lo warna nahi lo. STUPID. I always got a cheaper deal because I did not opt for a "desi install of injection pump"
