Difference between ATF & CVT

hello brothers,
I have corolla xli automatic, I changed automatic transmission fluid at 50000. now I saw in one post about CVT. I want to know what is CVT coz, before I never know about that and also there I saw people were telling that should b change at 40000. is it same as ATF or anything else that I have to change?
please tell me.

ATF is Automatic Transmission Fluid and is used for cars like we have Civic Prosmatic and Corolla Automatic
CVT is Continuously Variable Transmission and we have this type of transmission is almost all Japanese cars like Vitz , passo etc...
For you ATF is right one to use .....

Brother,
CVT (Continuous Variable Transmissions) is engine's technology/type & its functionality.
ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) is different and comes in different categories ATF-I, II, III, IV, etc. all depends upon the type of Engine.

XLI do not have CVT engine. So never use CVT Oil for your XLI.
Find whats recommended in the manual. Either its ATF-I, II, III, IV, etc.
Am not sure but I think for XLI its ATF-IV. But plz double check from your manual.

And whatever your manual says (its ATF-I, II, III, etc.) then simply go to Liqui Moly and buy this oil. These are bit expensive than Toyota's ATF, but durability & quality is outstanding.
Never use toyota's ATF and never have it change from Toyota's workshop. They know every way to pull big money out from your pocket.

And for your ref, Toyota does not produce the oils. They just buy them from other local companies and tag toyota's oil and hence make profits like hell.

And as per my information, CVT engines are only coming in three Cars.
Vitz, Passo & Belta.

I already changed the ATF. I think that was ATF-II. I changed that at 50000 from petromin. they charge me 300SR(almost 8500rs). they put 4 bottles new oil then tell me to 4 times drive forward and reverse, then drain oil, after again put new oil.

The most important thing is that You must have to use the Same Oil Type of ATF as mentioned in your car manual.

thanks for your informative advice.
toyota advise to change ATF at 40000, I check their maintenance schedule. upto 35000 I make service from toyota, but that was costly and after that I am changing oil from petromin. they advised to change ATF at 50000 so I change from there at 50k.
I had confusion about CVT & ATF. that is clear now.

No doubt Petromin has good service... My car (Corolla) is also serviced from Petromin from the day it was with me... Just like oil change the difference is between 15 riyals in Petromin and road side oil changers.... But as I remember when my friend purchased his car he changed it at 30,000 km and then Petromin pasted the sticker for changing time of 60,000 km... May be they know better... hum to tension free hyn manual car rakh k ...

when I go to petromin, that time mileage was about 48000. (not exact I remember) they put the mileage in computer, and when pasted the sticker for next ATF change, that was double the mileage. means if that was 48k then next was 96k. they not add 50k or 40 in mileage, they just double the mileage;). so this is happend with your friend. tell him to ask from them.

Means they change it every 48,000 km... khair no problem I will check with my friend. Imtiaz bhai is pr koi detailing session kr lyn.. otherwise this color will look very bad when there will be more swirls... when my colleague received his car I will post pic of his ride to give you an idea how it looks without detailing session, his car also has same color year 2011...

they just double the figure. but I will change that at 40 or 45k.
faisal bhai, I ask from one detailing member about wax and polish. 2-3 times I went to buy that products which he recommend me, I not found that. so I came back. next time I not tried. please you recommend me, which I have to buy, cos you know about saudia market. so I will use that product.

Imtiaz bro .. am also in learning stage... As per discussion with the Detailing Gurus, Usman Bhai (vague_one), Aamir Bhai (accord7632) and Ahmad Bhai (ahmad_yar) they recommended me products from Meguiars, Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Meguiars Ultimate Polish and Meguiars Ulimate Paste Wax... These products are best for our environment, Compound and polish will remove swirls and scratches and then Ultimate wax will give you long term protection.. You can find these products on SACO (as per their website, no personal visit) and some reputed or good Car decoration shop or the most best solution If any one coming from Pakistan tell him to bring these for you.

Currently am using products of X-Team (product from Accessories - Naghi Motors subsidiary) and you have already seen the result. I can tell you one thing these are not as good as Meguiars ... Am in search for some one who can bring the above said products for me from Pakistan.

Before going to my recommendation about products you can first discuss with the Detailing Gurus, products finding is not a problem.. Kindly post your car current pics at Car care and detailing thread and get suggestions from Gurus...
