the main difference b/w a 316i and 318i is the engine size.

hey amn 316i is 1600cc injection n 318i is 1800cc injection 3 is basically the name of the series

well.....316i is 1.6 and 318 is 1.8....and 3 denotes 3 Series....

I think you can find the engine size in every BMW's name. Correct me if I'm wrong. I think the same goes with mercedes
BMW
318i=1800cc 3 series
316i=1600cc 3 series
525= 2500cc 5 series

Mercedes
ML350=3500CC ML Class
ML500=5000 cc ML Class
