Disadvantages of using CNG?

Hello,

This is to ask you guys, it there is any disadvantage of using CNG, as compared to petrol, apart from compromising a little on the pickup.

I don't know if that issue is previously been discussed here, if it is, just give me the link, if not let's carry on with it, it would be a great and informative debate.

Disadvantages of CNG:-

1. Low Pick.
2. Low Low-end Torque.
3. Ya cannot travel more then 200kms.
4. Ya hav to get in a long q for atleast 15 min.
5. Engine's life span got shortened.
6. Ther's always a person sittin in ur trunk.
7. Ther is always issues involved with its tuning nd things lik tht.
8. Starting problem in cold weather.
9. Installation cost is quite high.
10. Its better to drive a vehicle on petrol as compared to CNG coz the engine was not designed for CNG.

No Offence meant, I maself used CNG for couple of months but got fed up.

I have not found any hard data on reduced engine life. I welcome data driven feedback.

Otherwise Charterali has good points, BUT, and it is a BIG BUTT... ALL these concerns not only evaporate, but are improved for a vehicle designed specifically for CNG. And I said VEHICLE, not merely the engine.

Performance issues apart
CNG deposits less/or no carbon in engine. Consequently engine life improves rather than deteriorating

Also significant cost reduction is a BIG advantage.
In the era we are going through when commodity prices have rocketed sky high every1 is looking for some sort of respite.

i disagree with charterali on the 1st,2nd & 5th Points....
CNG should always be installed on 1.5 or higher engines for better performance....CNG should only be used by ppl who have a lot of daily running, about 100kms/day....

CNG give you a sense of false economy and lots of troubles. Save on something else buddies and do not turn your horses into donkies.

The driver of a CNG Vehicle has option whether to ride on a horse (PETROL) or on a donkey (CNG). It is called variety of rides --- or Two in One....

PS: use CNG when not in a mood of race and use PERTOL when in a mood of race.

Everything in this world has a tradeoof associated with it.
One goes for the option that suits best based on preferences,likings etc.

But not many are able to identify the tradeoff, let alone cost associated with that tradeoff.

Well the MOST IMP thing to be considered here is that for most people like me, petrol is NOT AN OPTION, I mean I have to drive 40 kms a day at least( to university and back), on CNG it costs me rs 50 (yup it's that good on my car), now consider petrol. Rs 57 per litre almost, my charade can manage 14 km per litre when driven carefully, that means 57/14= approx 4 per km and 40*4= 160 rupees a day. I have to goto the uni at least 25 days a month so on cng its 1250 a month and on petrol it's 4000 a month........... a ratio of 1:3.2 ........... and for a student.....and also this much difference when travelling so less, this does matter. Consider travelling more then 100km a day and the difference will be near 10 thousand a month......... and haan, I can't recall any major expense like tuning and maintenance required due to CNG ss don't blame it if your car engine had problems even on petrol........Soooooooooooooooooo

installing cng has many disadvantages but its being cost effiecient is the mjor part and before installing cng my travelling expense rose upto like 16000 per month as i have to travel more then 100kms per day and now i only have to spend like 8000 or so but my car now lacks pick up which is now improved by installing the turbo chip so if anyone has to travel more the 50kms a day cng is no ofeence its just a saving while people here have made cng a bisti point.

i have to agree eith CNG being bisti
survey resulyt so far shows that 70% of pakwheelers are running cars on petrol 11% on diesel and 19% on CNG

the biggest disadvantage is uncertainty.
on first traffic signal ur car kicked off well, u stopped on next signal and here ur miseries started, now no pick, nothing whatsoever.
I must confess, uncertainty in life gives u strength for ur endeavours but ppl'd still call u adventurist
figure out urself, CNG is good or bad

yar nowdays in islamabad there are no queees on cng stations... they stations are popping around every corner...
