Well I would like @Xulfiqar @syncview @ecu_designer comment on following idea.
Main Concept: Bypass Distributor and Use Coil Over Plugs in Wasted Spar or Direct Spark mode.
How to Detect Position:
This is the only problem here. There are Two solutions that come to my mind.
- Industrial Position Sensor
- Optical System
These would tell us the position of the rotor inside the distributor cap. Depending on the type of ignition intended to have the number of sensors can be changed.
How to Get Spark on each cylinder?
Once we have the position of rotor we know which spark plug to fire. Our microcontroller would control each COP and a direct signal from ICM would go to all COP's. Only the one which being made active by our Uc will be active and produce spark.
Controller needs to operate at 40MHz i guess and would have to use either IGBT or Mosfet.
The ICM Pulse consist of high and low pulses and icm produces spark on falling edge (when pulse gets 0) i guess. Same signal can be fed to our coil over spark plugs
Wasted Spark
We only need to fire two coils. Either one of them would be powered on. It works in group fashion either 1-4 are on or 2-3 are on. In this case it becomes more easier. We would need to develop our custom rotor which would have a circle divided into to parts with 90 dgree angle between them.
Its not necessary i am thinking of it as i have problem with spark plug wires and want to replace them. it can be a good solution i guess and was thinking on it out of curiosity since last night
Cost
AEM procduct costs about 800 USD and few others have done the same and they charge 450 USD. One can get complete D17A in 600 USD why go for such big expense on thing like this. My idea is my setup should range from 2k-5k pkr max
